Jail…Seriously? There’s no way some podunk mayor should have any sort of power to incarcerate anyone. That’s truly absurd. fricking Louisiana.

Let’s see, the Chiefs son has killed multiple people and the FBI raided his office earlier this year. One of their deputies also murdered someone recently.

Hoping those indictments he’s about to get will shut down the entire department.

Louisiana Illuminator story

I just realized I drove through this town and got gas at the Exxon there twice in the last year.
We didn't have any issues as I drive the actual speed limit b/c I'm a pawpaw but I despise speed traps.

Georgetown - Southbound is real MFer.

Sitting on the edge of the guardrail at the base of the overpass. Knowing damn good & well you are building up speed coming down it.

I've grown to hate driving on the interstates so now I drive the US highways just to see the small towns. I always drive 5 to 10 miles below the posted speed limit so that I can soak up the local ambiance. The small towns in west Texas are unique.

Always expect a Smokey with a Kodax.

If everyone was wise enough to do this, the problem would go away.

This is horrible. Those locals in Fenton should vote them out as the funds are obviously padding pockets, not bettering the village. I’ll be d*mned if I pay a penny for a fake speeding ticket that was give to that woman. If the Atty General won’t intervene, I’ll go further, on principle.

Yeah, with it getting exposed, they're going to have to cut it out or lose state and federal funding.

Would like to see the numbers on St. Gabriel. They have to be up there, those police sit on Hwy 30 preying on people.

I would love to meet an elected person that is not a crook!

“A grand jury in Plaquemine charged St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau on Friday with malfeasance, obstruction, money laundering, theft over $25,000, conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to commit theft over $25,000 and five counts of failing to maintain public records, Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said.”
"It was glaring that some $3,500 that was taken out of the deceased’s car was missing," Stassi said at the time.

the 165 stretch between alexandria and monroe is hell for speed traps.

going to school at ULM I knew where i needed to watch myself early on. Got one in Olla my junior year because I was talking to my gf at the time on the phone and lost track of where I was. mr. fife popped me for like 11 over or something. Wasnt even mad at him. I knew what the deal was and just wasnt paying attention.

Wrong city. Olla has never had a stop light. But they will frown on speeding. Beware of Georgetown and Dodson.

wonder if they're even getting people for even three or four mph over just because they know the mayor will enforce it.

In Louisiana, the city/town/village cannot keep any funds generated from speeding fines that are less that 10 mph over the speed limit, so they must have the speed limit set at 30 mph and stopping everyone doing 41 mph. They pull over all the i10 traffic headed to the coushatta casino

ETA: the speed limit is 50 mph, so people are just hauling azz doing 60+ to go gamble

Woodworth was so bad while I was in pharmacy school at NLU. They made the national news during that time for getting most of their revenue from speeding tickets.

Baw, he said “downtown” Olla. You gotta peel off 165 to 125 at Sid’s & Pearls to hit the thriving downtown Olla.

I thought the Legislature passed something a few years back that if you were less than 10 mph over, the fine had to go to the state instead of the municipality. I thought it was specifically to curb the rinky dink speed traps.

They did.

Eta: As said by another poster, this statute only applies to speeding tickets on the interstates.

The statute is shite, and where the money goes is shite.

This statute needs to include more instances where the fine money is shifted away from the locals. However, the money needs to go to something different.
