Fee for an HVAC quote?

Hi,

I am in market in BR to replace my HVAC unit and called Climate Control which seems to have good reviews on this board. I was told they would charge $95 to come out and give a quote. Would deduct if I go with them. Is this normal for HVAC quotes these days?

Any recommendations for HVAC companies?

Thanks!

Any reputable, respectable company doesn’t charge for a quote.

Completely agree. What is the nonsense of charging for a quote? And licencedtochill (cilmate control) had good reviews here. Avoid them.

I don’t like it, but it is happening more & more where companies charge for a quote and it’s deducted if they do the work.

As the labor pool continues to shrink with boomers retiring, trade prices will skyrocket and this will become more common.

Blame the a$$holes that insisted college was a must and effectively neutered the skilled labor force…

i got quotes about 4 years ago when i had to redo everything.
No one charged for a quote, and if someone would have mentioned charging for a quote, I would have told them to get the hell out of here.

Accutemp and other larger companies charge about $150 up front to visit your house and it's a crock.

Preach brother. I’m afraid in a few years hiring an electrician, plumber, or HVAC company will be like hiring a doctor.

Laugh all you want at the absurdity of that statement. It’s true.

I can understand why they do it, and I have no issues with them doing it as long as they make people well aware of their policy.

I’m guessing too many give them the run around and they really aren’t serious customers, or they have more business than they can handle already.

I think the fee is a baseline price, so if you need a capacitor, it's the cost of that part plus the visit fee, which happened to our neighbor. I wouldn't expect the company to work for free, but with that example, the cost seems too high to me.

Scotty's Heating and Air
2258063031

I used him after dealing with endless fees and bullshite and misdiagnosis (they wanted to change all these expensive parts). Endless delays, not being able to get an appointment, charges just to look at it where they did nothing.

I was out of town this summer and the AC went out. During the heat wave. I called Dream Team who I had a stupid membership with. Supposed to get priority scheduling.

Took 2 days to get someone out, then they looked at a couple things and said it was some 800 motherboard that wouldn't even be in until the next week, like 4 days out.

Got that recommendation from family and Scotty's came out that evening. Turns out they (dream team)had missed/misdiagnosed (maybe on purpose) the real culprit.

A switch. A simple, cheap switch. Had the AC back running and my family cooling that evening.

Then was able to replace an inexpensive part to get the heater working again (it's been out for 2 years).

Scotty's is my go to now.

Same guy that got attacked by some thug around this time last year

Unfiltered with Kiran

So you can feel good about giving him your business

There's a huge profit margin already on installs, its laughable a company would want to charge for a quote when others don't. They must be marking it up extra high and rarely installing new units at competitive prices in order to charge for a quote.
