re: Travel suggestion in July
Posted by jazzybee on 4/14/25 at 12:16 pm to LemmyLives
Thank you all for the suggestions. I am thinking to go to Seattle for 5-6 days including 2 days for Olympic National Park. What should be my itinerary?
I am thinking getting a rental car from Seattle airport and drive to Port Angeles on Day 1. The stay in the park on Day 2 and drive back on Day 3 to return the car after covering the loop around the Olympic national park. Then stay around in downtown for 2 days and fly back. I won't take the rental in downtown and rely on local transport.
What are major attractions I can see in this trip? What should I not miss?
Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions. May be I should donate my 20 year old Corolla to him once fully licensed and pay his insurance separately.
Questions on teen drivers insurance
Posted by jazzybee on 4/14/25 at 11:08 am
HI Folks,
My son (16) is applying for Temporary Instruction permit which is needed for drivers education course before getting the learner's permit.
Two questions:
1. When does he need to get auto insurance? Is it when he gets Temporary Instruction permit or learner's permit? Does my auto insurance company automatically knows about these permits and puts them on my policy? Mine is up for renewal soon.
2. How do I keep the auto insurance down with teen driver added? When on learners and full permit my son will be driving my 20 years old corolla. He won't be touching other cars in my household. Someone told me it is possible to keep rates low by telling the insurance company that my son won't be driver on other cars. Others told me it does not work.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Thanks so much!
I would like a mixture of outdoorsy stuff and city. we would like to cover all important monuments in the city leaving a couple of days to see what is a must nearby. I plan to rent a car.
But how is the public transport?

Thanks. Would July 4 weekend be ok, or we should go a week later?
If we land in Seattle, what is certainly must see around for a 4-5 day trip?
Any suggestions for cabins?

Thanks. Seattle is in short list. How will it compare to San Fransico or Oregon? Teen child has never been to these places and I wish to give him some unique experience before he leaves for college.
Travel suggestion in July
Posted by jazzybee on 4/12/25 at 7:02 am
HI,
Can anyone suggest some vacation ideas for4-5 days in July in Pacific NW or California? Flights should be from MSY. Open to all suggestions including just city adventure or taking day trips around. My family (2+1 teen) has limited interest in sports or wine tours. More nature or museum fans.
Thanks

No power at LSU!
Posted by jazzybee on 2/24/25 at 12:14 pm
Power has been off campus wide for almost half an hour. Widespread disruption to classes and research. U-High and LSU ECELP have no power too. Broadcast email says they are investigating.
I told him to rent a car. But, he is new in US and has no drivers license yet.
(He is legal international student).

Greyhound from Baton Rouge to Houston. Any recent experiences?
Posted by jazzybee on 12/7/24 at 9:03 am
Asking for a colleague who wishes to travel to Houston using Greyhound/Flixbus. He understands it might be worse than Spirit airlines without wings. But, how bad it is? Are buses generally on time?

The fact is that in old Europe Physicians got jealous and started referring themselves doctors. Historically, it was those who have doctorates (PhDs) could call themselves doctors.
another fact: PhDs who know this are amused by the ignorance of most of the "doctors." I always refer to my PCP as a physician on her face, never as a doctor. She refers me as Dr. ... because of my doctoral degree.
Parking violation: when to call Sheriff?
Posted by jazzybee on 12/30/23 at 7:57 am
Hi All,
Some unknown elderly person parked his car next to my mailbox yesterday morning and left in another car. Seems he had problems with this car's tire (white Infiniti QX60). One of the tires is spare and I thought he would return soon but the car is still there blocking mailbox access for USPS for now 24 hrs. The car is parked against traffic too. My house is at a junction of two neighborhood streets and anything parked at that spot has nice visibility from far.
I am worried about that person and this vehicle too. I called my neighborhood association and was told to call the Sheriff today. How long would you wait in this case (and given these holidays) to call the Sheriff's office?
Thanks

re: Fee for an HVAC quote?

Thanks for recommending Scotty. His guy came out today -- free of charge -- and was more keen to fix the system than sell me an upgrade! He will be coming back again to do more calculations -- free of charge!!
(Everyone understands that there is no free lunch. But if a serious buyer needs to replace an HVAC unit, a consultation fee of 100+ is too much, especially when one should be taking 4-5 quotes).

Is this Kelly Scott ac or something else? Please share website or phone. Thanks
Completely agree. What is the nonsense of charging for a quote? And licencedtochill (cilmate control) had good reviews here. Avoid them.
Fee for an HVAC quote?

Hi,
I am in market in BR to replace my HVAC unit and called Climate Control which seems to have good reviews on this board. I was told they would charge $95 to come out and give a quote. Would deduct if I go with them. Is this normal for HVAC quotes these days?
Any recommendations for HVAC companies?
Thanks!
