What would you do with a son who doesn't want to play basketball anymore?

He is not getting the playtime he thinks he should get. He is a very good player, but is not cracking the top five. He wants to complete this season and be done with it. He just wants to workout, work, and do school. I think athletics are good for him. I am torn. I might just make him play. What the heck does a teenage boy know about what is best for him. I am worried idle time will lead to bad things.

Back in my day we had this thing called a belt. But I guess parents these days don’t know about that since I see so many sagging pants around

Sounds like all worthy endeavors and you want to shite on him because he won't play a game?

Spray him in the face with a hose

Then help him find something else constructive to do with his time.
Dont force him to do something he isnt enjoying. He will have plenty of time to do that when he is an adult.

Why not make him get an after school job if you’re worried about idle time

Season just started did it not?

if he isn't cracking the top 5 at his school then work is probably a more productive use of his time.

Beat him. Then beat your ole lady. Then kick the dog.
I’m sure you will feel better after all of that

He sounds spoiled. He won’t be on the team if he’s not a star?
What if everyone but the starting 5 followed this path?

put a dress on him and try out for the WNBA

I’m sure forcing him to play will work out great.

Please don’t let him quit. He might end up joining a gang and taking on bad habits like graffiti artistry and vanilla vaping.

You’re saying a teenager should be beat with a belt if they lose interest in a sport? Amazing parenting there.

I didn't force my son to keep playing baseball, even though I love it. He wound up playing other sports and didn't even die one time.
I did tell him that I wanted him to play one sport each season, or be involved in some extra-curricular activity each semester. He choose football after baseball.
let him pick. he will respect the hell outta you for supporting him. he'd likely resent you and baseball If you forced him to keep playing.

Working out will produce the same type of character sports do.
Just watch him closely. High school kids get easy access to steroids. It’s like candy now.

Letting him quit when things aren’t going his way isn’t a good idea.
