The Cam Whitmore vs Hawkins summer league debate was the epitome of dumb message board poster GMs. You literally had several people wanting to blow the team up, fire Griff, fire Willie, dump Hawkins for nothing and completely start over because Cam Whitmore had a better summer league game than Hawkins. I just wish more of them would admit they were wrong.

Especially when teams that are well respected with being great organizations like GS and MIA picked after us, and they also passed on him.

Saying you think we should pick that guy, that's fine. But like you said and even before SL, right in real time during the draft, dudes are melting talking about how incompetent the FO is for passing on him, or whatever.

It's just so over the top, the hot takes are just absurd sometimes. Maybe he was the guy, maybe we didn't make the right pick. But the idea that it was just completely organization incompetence is just silly.

Just realized that Whitmore hasn’t hit a single three this season and is barely playing on a bad rockets team lololol

He has only played in two games, in garbage time. He got in last night cause they blew out the Kings. The Rockets don't have the injuries we do. So he's buried on the depth chart.

I'm not backing down from my disappointment we didn't take Whitmore. He's very young and raw, but tons of potential and upside. If you follow the thread, I kept saying it after every pick and then he fell to us. I was super geeked up. I was extremely let down that we didn't take him. It was a gut punch.

All that is not a reflection on Hawkins. I don't think I've ever said anything negative about him. He was always a better fit with our current group and we need shooting. But I was thinking of the future and I think Whitmore could be a star..

How can drafting a shooter possibly be a bad thing

I mean it is early but I’m glad I’m wrong so far. Love his energy defensively and toughness

I still like Whitmores potential

Calm down, we do this in some form every year. I've eaten crow plenty of times on here, the main being my Jaxson Hayes love.
yeah it’s not that serious lol. By next year You could be eating crow for telling us we should eat crow after only 7 games.. We don’t know at this stage

We had that before, his name was NAW & Jaxson Hayes.

I think the reality is they went for the guys with higher floors & specialized talent already rather than raw talent.

Was NAW not suppose to be a high floor guy coming out?

Rockets have a ton of young guys on that team plus vets who take up Whitmore position. Their starters play a ton of minutes. Plus they’re gonna play amen before Whitmore.

Nice. He just turned 19 and he's not getting better watching on the bench. He will probably be back and forth a bit through the season..

I’ll admit I would have drafted Whitmore. At 14 you roll the dice on a player that slipped and should not have lasted that long.

Kinda hilarious everyone thumping their chest right now. Whitmore just turned 19. How did Hawkins look at 19? He stayed in school an extra two years to develop. Hawkins is about nba ready a prospect as you are gonna be. He already had elite shooting. Glad to see he is showing to be more capable in other areas than what scouts thought. It’s good for the team so I’m happy.

And I’ll gladly eat crow in 3-4 years if Whitmore is still riding the pine and not producing. Until then, not a chance.

Definitely not. He was seen as a high-ceiling guy that would likely take a while to develop into a rotation player.

We also passed on that before. Passed on Darius Garland who I said we should have drafted that year. Have nothing to show from a draft where we could have had an all star talent
