The world in general is becoming an ever more angry, blood thirsty, and violent place.

I see this reflected in everything in life these days to a level I’ve not seen it previously in my life, from the manner in which people drive angry and aggressive, to our sports, to the quickness at which people want to lash out at people at the drop of a hat, the callousness to the loss of life, hatred and vitriol in our politics, intolerance to opposing opinions, and general hatred for humans they deem unworthy like themselves.
While the world has always been full of violence in humanity, I don’t think I’ve experienced a time where people are at each other’s throats like I have today, a really really angry place that’s certainly not getting better, but much worse at every passing year it would appear to me. When everything is going our way, we can mask it, but at the slightest opposition the beast comes out in people today, and with little in the lines of governance.
I think you see this everywhere in the world, but I don’t think you see it demonstrated to the level that you do in America in particular compared to the rest of Western nations. Why are we so angry and violent and at the ready to go at each other’s throats at the drop of a hat?

No it's not.
The world is just "connected" now.
And you can see and watch violence when and where it occurs in every corner of the earth now.

Social media brings out the worst in people

Well, I’ve been driving and interacting with other humans for over five decades, and I’ve not seen anything like this, but I guess it’s just my vivid imagination?

This is nothing new. The internet and 24/7 news has just brought it to your attention like nothing before. Carry a gun wherever/wherever you can and be prepared to use it

That’s what’s new, and indicative of the problem I’m seeing everywhere. I’ve not had to consider arming myself before, but now it’s something you have to think about.

Yesterday I woke up and went into my community to run errands. I had at least 10 positive interactions with complete strangers. Sometimes you just have to talk with people and say positive things. It’s infectious.

I do too, and it’s not that it’s everyone. Clearly it’s not, but it is something that’s taken over in our society like I’ve not seen it before, to the point where you do have to consider arming yourself these days as previously mentioned.

Correct! We are actually living in a very civilized part of human history comparatively

Most people didn’t grow up with this internet culture and now that they’re being exposed to it constantly they don’t handle it well. They’re not used to arguing all the time online, being exposed to people a half a world away with views they are the antithesis of their own, etc.
Most people used to just go about their lives and their day to day was more in the moment of their own small world.
I think social media has been horrific for the world.

Selective memory.
As we age and our memories fade, our brain tends to wipe out the negative more than the positive. What we are left with is selective memory of better times.

This.
The world is probably at its most peaceful state in centuries. Maybe ever. However, the media wants does everything possible to create discord to sell you that narrative. They are truly the No. 1 enemy of the people

I am seeing less self-control and less regard for social courtesy.

you need to study some medieval history...those f'rs had little regard for human life. Some of the shite that went on made those Mexican cartels seems like friendly chaps.

It’s like you people don’t really think about what you’re saying lol. Imagine the large majority of people in all of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, behaving the way Hamas and ISIS do. Because that was reality for so much of human history. And tbh, what Hamas and ISIS do, is probably still mild compared to what the Mongols and other groups of people did to each other back then.
Humans have never been more civilized than we are today. It’s really the Middle East and Africa that still has the crazies.

Little fear of repercussions drives a lot of it. Drive how you want, no cops will stop you. Steal because the company will let you walk out. Act how you want and others like you will come to your defense on social media to cancel anyone that questions your behavior.
