I told him that it will be interesting to see what his family that's disowning him have to say when she loses the weight.
Probably crickets & they will pretend that they don't remember giving him such a hard time etc. and that them disowning him was just a huge misunderstanding.

Yeah some of these folks coming down on ol’ dude for cashing in his chips aren’t considering the flip side of this, that the wife sounds like she isn’t even lifting a finger to do right on her side. Knowing she is putting a wedge in the relationship, she isn’t motivated to put any effort into fixing it.

This would be a much better thread if folks supporting divorce would list their own weight. There is a whole lot of 40 year old, coonass males that do not fit in airline seats

I, take you, to be my wife. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

Very rare to see a couple with 1 person in great shape and the other 100 lbs overweight. I’d bet money dude thinks BMI doesn’t apply to him because he used to work out in high school.

He absolutely did the right thing.

Yeah it’s one thing to fulfill this “bad” times thing if something beyond one’s control is causing the bad…but this is different. The bad here can be improved if not fixed and the wife is CHOOSING to bring the bad to the forefront. That’s not exactly what the vows were meant for in my opinion.

He told me that it is costing him a fortune in child support etc., but that he would rather live in a studio apartment and eat peanut butter for the rest of his life than to wake up and have to look at her for the rest of his life.
Based.

What does this have to do with adding 100 pounds?
Bad times is losing a job. The house burning down. Losing a loved one. Not stuffing your fat face.

If he was an arse hole and become unattractive to her emotionally, she'd get all the support in the world for leaving him.

You know there’s a nice medium between telling your wife lose some weight and causing a full blown eating disorder.
When your parents divorcing because your mom was overweight is going to leave a psychological remark.

Man that's wild.
My wife got to at or below her pre-pregnancy weight both times within a year.

He should have looked at a picture of her mama before popping the question. That's usually the best indicator of WGP. Father is a distant second. Then siblings.

This is wrong. Suck it up like a man until the kids are grown. Divorce sucks for minors.
Being forced to endure a bad marriage is fairly detrimental to kids as well.

I can’t imagine this guy was actually nice to her about losing weight.
Why can't you imagine it?
Are women incapable of letting themselves go and not giving a shite?
If he let himself go emotionally and stopped giving a shite, would that be okay?

Exactly! Then ignoring the pleas of her husband to curtail this multi-layered unhealthy behavior for their relationship and she chooses otherwise. Again it sounds as if she isn’t even making an attempt to better herself and save the marriage. THIS is not a small thing and it darn sure doesn’t fall into the intent of “worse” in the vows such as your list entails.
