Thoughts, opinions?

Would you be pleased with your child going there for a degree?

General questions I know, just curious.

Pretty, safe campus. Clean-cut, decent kids. Good engineering and ag program. I would've been happy for my kid to attend. Obviously, an SEC school, which is a bonus for sports.

I have two high schoolers who are seriously considering State. One will have more options like Auburn or UGA but we'll be fine if she ends up at State. It's pretty cheap for a state school with all the course offerings, funding, etc. Of course my two will get in-state tuition because their mom's address.

Tldr it's not nearly the worst place your kid could go to college.

I know a lot of State grads and most have been above-average and some very intelligent. It’s a solid university. On the other hand, the majority of Ole Miss grads I’ve worked with have been lazy and not very bright.

Thanksgiving trash talking would be fun every year when the kids visit.

Good strong engineering school with a completely unpretentious fan base. To be honest, I would feel more comfortable sending my child there than LSU.

Starkville gets a lot of hate, but it's not bad at all.

Their graduates are smart and competent but less than creative, in my experience- classic farmers and engineers. I don't know where they land in the USNWR rankings, but I think MSU is probably a top 100 research university by any reasonable standard.

I like how the three big public universities in Mississippi have pretty obviously distinct cultures and identities. It's not like Louisiana, where ULL really kind of just feels like LSU Junior, McNeese feels like ULL Junior, etc.

ETA: Let me give an example. It's a little crazy how quiet MSU's campus is compared to USM or Ole Miss.

Large state public school. The difference between it and other regional schools is not worth paying any extra money. In general choosing a college undergraduate school is overrated.
