Mike Johnson is MAGA extremism all dressed up in a suit and tie.

As two senior members of the Judiciary Committee, Johnson and I have fought over a host of key issues from guns to immigration to his penchant for deep state conspiracy theories. He’s anti-reproductive freedom. Anti same-sex marriage. And supports the gutting of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. That’s just for starters.

But honestly, that’s most Republicans these days. Johnson is different because he was the lead architect behind House Republican efforts to overturn the 2020 election and still pushes out the Big Lie to this very day.

But our run-ins long predate our service together on the Judiciary Committee, and go back to the first impeachment of Donald Trump.

Mike Johnson served on Trump’s defense team during the first Senate impeachment trial. While I presented facts and evidence about Trump’s wrongdoings, Mike Johnson proudly parroted MAGA talking points to defend Trump.
