The problem there is that there would be entirely too many people like yourself determining what “mentally ill” is.
Your ilk has already shown a propensity for abusing that kind of responsibility to suit your own purposes. No thanks.

Exactly.
In the end this will "proportionally affect" black people and they;ll decide its a shitty policy, and rig it against political opponents like they do everything else.

By people with guns.
Which tells me you’re not anti-gun. You’re anti-whomever you deem to be the wrong person owning a gun.

I’m shocked it took till page 33 to get the classic gun to a car comparison.

There are enough gun laws on the books to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, criminals just dont pay attention to your laws.
You people think reducing the number of guns helps, it dont. It will just make them more expensive to legally own and more prone to theft.

No, they haven’t caught him yet.

Nothing like tying gun ownership to mental health screenings.
I’m sure people will totally tell the truth if one of the things they enjoy is tied behind some random person deciding if you’re mentally fit or not.
Know how men struggle with getting help for their mental health? Know how there is a massive stigma to admitting you’re depressed or not “well” mentally?
I’m totally sure that stigma will absolutely go away if you take away someone’s rights when they ask for help or admit they have an issue.
Oh…. And let’s not even get to the fact that mental health treatment is ALREADY expensive AND hard to get in a timely fashion.
I’m sure forcing millions of people with no mental health issues to get screened for mental health issues to be able to practice their right to own a firearm will TOTALLY make the process of getting mental health treatment both cheaper, and faster for those who ACTUALLY need it.

My theory is he had a boat waiting at the dock. Dogs can’t track you on the water

I’m admittedly late to this story, but didn’t this guy basically flag himself for mental health concerns?
Posted on 10/26/23 at 6:40 am to beerJeep
Why do they call him person of interest still? How can it not be upgraded to that? There’s pretty clear screen shots of videos of him holding the guns? It just seems like person of interest to a common idiot not aware of the full story is not alarming enough

Maine has that. They haven't adopted "red flag laws" yet, but they have something similar in "yellow flag laws". They even had stepped up their usage at some point according to an article I came across:
quote:
To issue a yellow flag order, a person is taken into protective custody by police and brought to a hospital. Officers fill out a statement arguing that they’ve determined a person is a danger to themselves or others and how they know the person has access to a weapon.
If this guy didn't fit this criteria with his recent trip to the psych ward, I don't know who is. So once again, it seems the laws are there, just not utilized. As we've seen over and over.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Is there some different protocols to follow if he’s a person of interest versus the primary suspect at-large?

You mean when they are legally adjudicated? Due process is a real pain in the arse to moronic little twerps like you huh?

I said that last night. There was a helicopter that actually started searching the waterways after midnight. I think it’s a possibility especially since he was a fisherman he knows the waterways more than likely

Didn’t someone mow down a bunch of people with a van recently?
As stated before, people who want to do harm will do harm no matter what tools are available to them

Darrell Brooks don't need a gun...
Just find old white people you hate...drive thru them

FTR, I consider a man who hears voices and expresses an interest in shooting a lot of people to be one of the "wrong persons".

They aren't taking guns.
The cost would be to great and our leaders know it.

Not hard to stretch that to people who are labeled threats to democracy based on political beliefs, right?
