Do yall remember how exciting flat panel (plasma) TV's were when they first came out?

Any time I was at a store with an electronics department I would always make a stop to just stare at them and dream about owning one in the future. I remember when the price came down from 10K to 5K thinking ok I think it's time to get one

I bought a black and white TV for a girlfriend...in college...in 1989.
Yes, I remember being excited about plasmas.
Was in COSTCO the other day, and there was some obnoxious 82" or so TV in there that wasn't an inch thick for maybe $1500...just started laughing at how far that's come.

Yep, purchased my Panasonic 42 inch plasma TV in 2007 for $2,500 and it finally died in 2016. Weighed an absolute ton but had a better picture than any TV I've had since.

I still have a 55 inch plasma in my back room. It’s a 2011 Panasonic from when they bought all the Kuro/Pioneer panel stuff.
The picture is still fantastic, but it’s only 1080p so I’m sure its days are numbered.
But, it’s still amazing for ESPN because it doesn’t try to upscale like my 4ks do.

My pops got a pioneer elite back in like 04 or something.
I maintain that that tv had the best picture I have ever seen. Died after about 12 years or so. I think it was over 5 grand.

I only paid $1400 for my 42” Panasonic plasma in 2005. I gave it to my mom about a year ago. I had forgotten how heavy it is when we moved it.

You think your 2007 720p plasma has better resolution than a 2020 or newer 4k 1440p tv? Think you need to take a trip down to your local lens crafters.

I remember spending 600 dollars in the early 90s on a Mitsubishi 27" tube TV.
I remember 10k plasmas in Best Buy...I be there are still people paying those off.

I remember my friends and I used to go to Best Buy all the time and look at our "dream TV." It was a 50" Pioneer plasma. And it was just a monitor...didn't even come with speakers.
Now you can get 70+" TVs for several hundred dollars. shite is crazy.

The images on plasma, even at HD, can look so engrossing that side by side comparisons to 4K OLED can be difficult to determine which is which.
*oh, and by the way geek boy. 1440p is used in gaming. 2160p is 4K.

The year 1970 made the VCR available to the average consumer. The very first VCRs cost around $1000 all the way up to $4000! VHS tapes cost around $100.
