Interesting conjecture, the early scoring issue (lack thereof) appeared more related to field position at the time.

Yeah, he made a great Pelini hire without interviewing him. What a great general!
Like it or not, O gave us the greatest year in the history of LSU football. Period.

It was time for him to go, but don't diminish what he did that year.

Now I hope we do meet Clemson in the bowl game just to push their shite in once more.

I'm sure it could have had some effect, but bad field position never bothered that offense. I remember thinking they were on everything we did immediately. But they also did have a talented D.

The most surprising thing here is that Ed was aware enough to even notice.

Although it was clearly time for him to hit the road when he did, he actually handled that year very well. Other than the Bama post-game stuff (which was still just in some moments with his team after a monumental win), I remember him telling the team before the Bama game not to say anything on Twitter and that games are won on the field and not on social media, etc. He did handled things well. Now, after they won it all, not so much.

Thought that was Woodwards hire or does Woodward only get credit for the good things he does since he is the prince of tigerdroppings?

Andy Staples said Venables is notorious for stealing signs.

It's common knowledge in college coaching circles that two of the two biggest sign-stealers are Venables and Saban.

When Saban was at LSU, multiple teams turned him into the SEC offices for illegal scouting, but nothing ever came of it. How that never got out, I'll never know.

What's wrong with an opponent scouting them, just like an opponent watching game film of the actual games, to try to predict tendencies?

There is nothing wrong with scouting a team and watching game film; it is a must. ZIt becomes cheating when you send someone to the game with video equipmnet that films the sideline and the signals. A group of people can figure out all of the signals if they have that type of recording; game films do not have that in formation.

I mean, it tracks. You don't have the kind of success Saban has had without getting greasy. If it works and you aren't going to be held accountable for it then why wouldn't you do it?

a frustrated coach Ed Orgeron told offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, "Change it up." Upon changing signals, LSU scored touchdowns on five of its next six drives.

That sounds like the Holy Mantra of the Elephant that Saban has latched on to for his entire tenure with the gumps.

apples and elephants, man. We're talking about signals in a football game.

(And I don't provide my data in front of 100,000 people for all to see. If I did and someone figured it out, I'd only have myself to blame).

It was an ill attempt at humor. No worries.

We got caught up in a field position battle in the first quarter. Think that had more to do with the slow start than them stealing any signs.

Respect for Coach O. Man is a General with the right assets under him

The problem is he had the wrong asses (bringing kids with them) under him. A successful man chasing pussy and clout has never led to anything good throughout history. A strong minded man lets both chase him. Ed couldn’t handle success and it ruined his career and LSU for a few years. 40% of a full scholarship team available will cripple a program. BK is still dealing with being paper thin at crucial positions. It’s quickly getting corrected, but Ed O damn near put a death cross in the program thinking or not thinking with the wrong head.

I remember this so well. Heard that morning that rumor and that Venables does this so often. Our offense did stall a couple times in the first quarter as a result too. We figured em out by the 2nd quarter tho

I remember, after the game, Burrow told a reporter that Clemson stopped them the first couple of possessions "until we figured out what they were doing."

I don’t understand why a team wouldn’t change their signals before every big/conference game. Leave the signals alone for Army and Grambling but then change them every other game

Changing signals can create confusion. If you have one hand sign that means a certain formation or play and then you change it every week or a few times throughout the season, you run the risk of confusing your own players.
