ever leave Louisiana, I will consider Mississippi (soon to be eliminating state income tax?),
If Mississippi eliminated the income tax, I would establish residence there with no problem.
Probably keep my place in Louisiana but have a condo or something in bay St. Louis

I’m getting into the mountains.
I was just in the Blue Ridge Mountains and it was wonderful with a lot of color this year.
We have reasons that we will stay in Louisiana but the desire to leave is still there.
There is a life outside of Louisiana.

I hope the majority of that 105K were on welfare
Wishful thinking. I'm quite confident they were gainfully employed or recent graduates heading to new jobs.

There’s something about the Montana/Idaho region that intrigues me. Wide open spaces, few people, great scenery. Probably some brutal winters, though.
There is no place in the continental US that has perfect weather, it is always a trade-off.. except for San Diego, and you will pay dearly to live there .

You might want to consider Florida.. Yes it’s extremely hot & humid , and will probably be unliveable in the next 30 or 40 yrs (like just about everywhere else in the South)- BUT having beautiful beaches nearby to cool off makes a dramatic difference… When i lived in SW Florida i was at the beach just about every single weekend, even sometimes on weeknights .
I like cold weather, seasons and the occasional snowfall. I'd rather live in Maine than Florida. No offense to the Floridians. Just a climate preference.

If Louisiana had a semi-functional economy, no one born here would ever leave.
We returned here due to family obligations.
But there are many places which offer better economic situations.
We would consider Texas, Mississippi and the Carolinas.
I like parts of Alabama and would look there as well, but the wife would not likely get past the whole Gump thing. Can't blame her there.
Hated to leave the first time, but had to make a difficult career choice. After that previous experience, doing it again would be far easier. There are lot of opportunities out there - if you have the will and/or need to embrace them.

When I leave, it sure as shite won't be for Texas or Mississippi. Woof.

If one of you true Cajuns would move to Cookeville TN and open a restaurant I would be pleased.

some parts of coastal Mississippi have embraced the positive qualities of Louisiana culture and are more pleasant than 80% of Louisiana. Mississippi has by all intents and purposes passed Louisiana while states like Alabama are attempting to lap Louisiana. It's unfortunate because I love Louisiana
This is exactly what I am observing. I can remember being at LSU in the 80s and Louisiana was ahead of places like MS, AL and even TN. We were behind TX, but maybe on par with states like GA. A lot of it had to do with the state of the oil and gas industry obviously. But today, damn Louisiana is getting its clock cleaned.

Imagine finally leaving Louisiana just to move to Mississippi
I'll head to NW South Carolina or W.NC or Utah in 10 years or so when I retire.

Sitting in Sylva, NC as I type. Hard to find a better part of the country.

I’m one of the Texas transplants. Let’s be honest, though people who shite on Mississippi haven’t been there in a while. They do so much better than Louisiana with keeping some of their smaller towns clean. The Mississippi gulf coast is also awesome. I’d move back over there before moving to somewhere like lafayette or the Northshore.

In other words, beach or cheap property.
