One shitty magazine gave it a good review, how was this considered critically acclaimed?

There are a bunch of albums every year that fit the description of your thread title, but

isn’t one of them. Stone classic indie album.

I dig this album.

Overrated is anything from Radiohead and The Black Keys.

Slanted and Enchanted is a good album as is Malkmus' solo album. I would go with New Pornographers and The Decembrists. Their lead vocals annoy me for some reason.

They really are. This is not my genre of music, but I took my daughter to see them (Twenty One Pilots) in New Orleans on the tour for this album and they gained a new fan.

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

When I finally listed to it, I count believe this was getting all the hype it was... Not for me!

I liked Funeral by The Arcade Fire when it came out, but it has not aged well imo.

I’m a big pavement guy, but agree re: slanted - not their best.

Postal Service always pissed me off. My buddies were into it. Frick em.

. I liked them, but they are definitely not overly acclaimed... if anything, they were a blip on the radar nationally... even from an indie perspective.

I think the acclaim for some records mentioned from earlier time periods, may get lost on the listener if you weren't around when it was released... In many cases, these artists sounds were hugely influential and were "copied" to death over the years... the originality/freshness of these records are somewhat lost 30 years later..

Of course, someone can also just not care for a certain sound..

Most of the stuff from Radiohead. Overrated doesn't mean bad, in fact things that are overrated can be quite good, but some want to put at least 2 of their albums as top 10 all time.

I've always thought Radiohead was overrated, and that Thom Yorke's mumbling makes Eddie Vedder sound coherent.
