Is the emergence of Diggs the key to our offensive success?

Not taking anything from JD, I’ve been in his corner since day 1.

But having a true SEC caliber RB1 seems to keep the defenses off balance enough to make everything click. They can’t just focus on JD and the passing game.

ETA: is it a coincidence that the one game he didn’t play (FSU) was our worse performance by far

no it’s Daniels taking the next step and throwing the ball when he needs to.

more catch and run opportunities. more deep balls.

it completely opened offense

that being said, Diggs has been very good.
probably the best Zone runner we’ve had in a long time.

I'm no coach, but the OL seems to be the epicenter of everything that's right w/ the offense.

JD's internal clock seems to be on time and not sped up beyond belief, so he takes his time in the pocket, which has helped him tremendously. The O-line has a whole lot to do w/ that.

Diggs is certainly an upgrade, but again, the O-line being so dominant is making his production even better.

Honestly, I think we have 4-5 running backs that would have good success and the offense wouldn’t miss much of a beat. Diggs is probably the best though and deserves to be number one.

I think he is a key factor in the offensive success. Mainly, I think the success we've been seeing is because of Daniels increased confidence and the O-line being as dominant as they are. I can say I have never been more excited to watch an LSU offense since 2019.

The emergence of the running game is part of it. Ironically I think that started during the Ole Miss game.

The play of our o- line has been key.

Disagree.

Yes, Daniels improved alot but if you don't have a solid play from RBs to keep defense honest, then Daniels struggles alot against top teams like last year.

Truly impressive to watch and shows you how dominate this offense is. Most high-powered passing offenses rely mostly on sweeps, draws, read option, 'trickery' etc with no hard-nose pounding straight ahead runs. This team showed that they can lean on passing or run game at will.

Your quarterback is a 5th year starter that is probably the best player in the country.

That's the key to your offensive success.

This. It's cleared the box and that has allowed Diggs to get more than 3 yards a carry.

This offense has been explosive ever since JD5 decided he wanted to start airing it out.

Jones and Campbell are the best tackle combination LSU has ever had. It all starts there.

Jayden's progression as a QB by going through his progressions and throwing the ball with anticipation is key.

I don’t think Diggs is the key. But he has been fantastic, and our ability to run the ball is a huge part of our offensive success.

The reason I say it’s not Diggs specifically is that our other backs are also being very productive. Josh Williams has 8.5 yards per carry.

But I do think Diggs is our best RB. The thing that makes him great, in my view, is that it seems like he never gets stuffed at the LOS. We stay on schedule every time he touches the ball.

I do wonder whether the FSU game would have looked different if he had been available, but my gut says it doesn’t change the outcome. The RBs only had 12 carries in that game. Jayden also didn’t have his best day, but what killed us more than anything was not being able to stop the power run game from FSU in the 2nd half.

The success is a combination of good things happening.

JD could not get thru progressions last year, and is exceptional at it this year. I saw him throw to his 4th guy last week. Cudos to him and the coaches!

JD has been looking downfield. He uses the whole field.

He was and is an elite runner with breakaway speed. He has elusiveness, and gets up to top speed quickly.

The Oline has played very good.

The play calling has been good. We attack the defense.

Diggs has been the workhorse, but the RBs as a unit have been good.

This list of good things is seldom achieved by one team!

Run blocking has improved tremendously. All of our backs look better this year. Also, our passing prowess opens up run opportunities. Diggs is great and I am glad we have him. He is solid and dependable and gets tough yards when it looks like none are available.

Diggs is not a guy who will break huge runs time and again and will not outrun people to the endzone on longer runs. But we don't need that type of back, we need exactly what he is. No one player, other than JD, is responsible for this. This is what a high-end balanced offensive attack looks like and it is predicated on having an extremely talented QB.

Downvoted to hell - a sure sign that this is correct, and it is. Diggs is a good back, but without Diggs we are still 5-2.

It's curious how fans will watch a game in which the RB gets massive yardage through gaping holes and conclude that the RB is great, instead of concluding that the offensive line is great.

LSU has an elite offensive line. Diggs and Daniels are benefitting tremendously from this.

It all begins and ends with the O line. Sure, it's good to have exceptional players to take advantage of the holes/protection, but without blocking nothing is happening.
