Lasagna at Avo

Finally had the lasagna at Avo Saturday night. I never order lasagna at a restaurant, but did Saturday based on a recommendation from a poster on this board. That was hands down the best lasagna I have eaten. Maybe one of the best dishes I’ve ever ordered.
This was only my second time at Avo, and both times were fantastic. The ambiance, food, and service all were perfect. Wife and I started with the tuna crudo and Caesar salad. I had the lasagna and she had the gulf fish of the day. Finished off with the pistachio almond gelato. We both had a cocktail when we sat down, and it was $165 after tip which is incredible to go out for under $200.
We never dine at the same restaurant twice in a year when we travel to Nola, but I’m strongly considering going back for a 3rd time before the end of the year. The first time we went in February, had the veal Parmesan and charred octopus at that time. That dining experience was equally as good as this past weekend.

The restaurant doesn’t get talked about as much as it should.
Never had a bad meal there and it was always consistent. I probably went 2-3 times a month when it was within walking distance from where I was staying

All of that made me hungry…and I just ate.

Oh yeah, perfect lasagna
Can't pass up the elk ribeye if it is on the menu

I have but it was pretty early on. My wife's dish was absurdly salty. I've been since then and it was good. I find myself craving good pasta because I don't really make it at home outside of spaghetti

I 100% agree. I feel exactly the same way. It’s a better sauce, it’s made with béchamel instead of bland ricotta. it’s so good.
the charred octopus is also a fantastic app.
I love AVO. my wife and i went there when she got her first job, after we got engaged, after we eloped lol.
edit: someone hates AVOz or has a strong opinion about someone else’s lasagna

Fightin Tigers, you were the poster that convinced me to get the lasagna. They are not serving the elk just yet…they said that’s more of a winter special.

My only experience with them was covid take out and it was horrible. Will have to go sit in one day

Damn. Lasagna is my favorite food. To the point where I barely open the menu at Italian places. This may warrant a drive down to New Orleans.

I don’t think I ever had lasagna at a restaurant. It was never something that piqued my interest on a menu.
But this was the first lasagna I’ve had with braised beef. I’ve always cooked it at home with ground beef. Total game changer. I can’t stop thinking about that dish. It was THAT good.

Since shuttered Rue 127 on N Carrollton had a similarly great charred octopus dish.
That pic looks outstanding.

Wish my grandparents would have known people would pay this much for lasagna. All joking aside, it looks good. The braised beef in lasagna is how they do it in Northern Italy, it is definitely tasty.

Bechamel and not ricotta, right?

Yes. Per their menu, Red Wine-Tomato Braised Beef, San Marzano Tomato Sugo, Béchamel

We are big fans of Avo. We have been a half dozen times or so. My favorite dishes are the lasagna, the meatball appetizer, carbonara (though I haven't seen it on the menu in a few years) and the hatchet pork chop when they have it. The basic pasta dishes are great too.

The lasagna there is phenomenal, did not regret my choice to order the only time I've been
If you want dessert or apps, eat half the lasagna and bring the rest home - it reheats incredibly well

There's a poster on here that either has beef with Avo or is the owner of Vincent's,
