It’s alternate shot we got dominated. I mean I truly don’t know how you “figure out” alternate shot. It seems random as shite to me

You simply cannot put terrible ball strikers like Spieth out there for alternate shot. You have to load your team with guys who hit lots of fairways and greens.

xander/cantay dominated foursomes in 2021. Got smoked this year

Neither side has been able to play alternate shot worth a shite on the others soil in 15 years

And we are 17.5-6.5 in foursomes at home the last 3 Ryder cups

So neither side knows what the frick is going on. Thinking it’s a captain thing or selection thing that one side has figured out just isn’t the case

It’s going to be Couples. Tiger is still two or three more away from being a captain. He needs to be a captain on European soil, IMO. That’s where we get smoked.

Several years ago the US team developed a strategy regarding their captains. They wanted consistency and familiarity from one event to the next. They felt the various strategies and personalities of each captain were widely different and inconsistent.

A core group including Davis Love III, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, and Zach Johnson eventually took over. They developed a mult-year plan and strategy. They would each rotate between serving as Captain and Vice-Captains.

The results have been mixed. At least the Americans are no longer losing on American soil. They have dominated the last two Ryder Cups held in the U.S. However, they are still losing in Europe, and most years it isn’t close.

- Fred Couples has captained multiple President’s Cup teams, and had been a Vice-Captain on several recent Ryder Cup teams. He should be a favorite.

- Justin Leonard and David Toms were once widely considered future captains until the strategy of Love/Stricker/Furyk/Zach Johnson took over. It’s time to bring in new blood. Time might have passed for either to be captains, but both should be involved.

- Stewart Cink was a Vice-Captain this year, and would be a good fit. He has tons of experience and is familiar with the current generation.

- Tiger not only meets all of the requirements, but seems to be the perfect candidate.

The real goal isn’t 2025, but when the Ryder Cup returns to Europe in 2027.

My god this is the most overrated thing in sports… how’s Tiger or whoever as captain gonna make multi-millionaire pros play better golf for one weekend? It’s already random as shite

And we have dominated foursomes at home

Traditionally you win play foursomes by hitting fairways and greens where you win four balls by making birdies. The course management needed for foursomes is different in the EU set ups as they are here. You have to play a lot more conservative in Europe (or hit it straighter) and that’s not the US game. That’s why putting Spieth out in Foursomes was such a crazy move.

That’s my point. It’s RANDOM. We aren’t anymore buddy system or united at home/away, but the alternate shot scores are completely different. So the variable is something other than our selection process and captains

Jeez are you dumb, it’s not random. Golfers are thin skinned. A negative comment from an opposing fan can send them into a tailspin. Home team advantage is huge in the Ryder Cup. Captains make little difference.

The following have NOT been captains:
Larry Nelson
Hale Irwin
Mark O'Meara
Mark Calcavechia
Fred Couples (How has he not)
Justin Leonard
David Toms
Stewart Cink
David Duval
Phil
Tiger

Phil isn't getting it anytime soon if ever. Period. The PGA of America won't do it, and if you read/listen between the lines, the current group of players probably wouldn't want him.

Yes, there are several guys older than Tiger who deserve "a turn" but given his US Open win at Bethpage, it might appeal to him. What might appeal more is giving him a home AND away captaincy through 2027.

I think Luke Donald may take 2025 for the Euros, especially since he only had about a year to prep for this one once Stenson was removed for going LIV.

The Euros are more interesting. How will they handle LIV defectors like Westwood and Sergio who (like Phil) would have been automatics?

I can't hear his name and Ryder Cup in the same sentence and not get angry. We were robbed of absolutely electric golf by a bunch of snobby pricks. I don't think I'll ever truly get over it.

He had a wild life full of drinking and gambling off the course and obviously his demeanor on the course at times rubbed the PGA the wrong way. Daly wasn't "clean" enough so they left him off the Ryder Cup team even in years he won majors and was clearly good enough for the team.

If he hadn't had such a massive natural following you can bet your arse he'd have disappeared from the annals of golf history had the PGA had its way.

For some reason I like Tiger in Europe. If anyone will put in the work to get the team ready, it will be him.

Cink at Bethpage is a good choice.
