Do I remember correctly that the interest kept tolling during the pause? I know some other Covid loans worked that way. If so I imagine there are lots of ignorant people out there in for a big surprise.....

frick them.
Signed,
A guy who has been paying on his loans, because I understood what a loan meant when I took them out for school.

No, the interest was 0 up til 9/1/23.
I have 13 more payments, I paid them for over a year at 0% but then said F it and paused them.

Ahh I Gotya. Makes more sense that the interest was paused or I feel like more people would be absolutely losing their minds

In the 3-5 months following Covid settling in we saved so much money, meanwhile my company went through a massive layoff and I was promoted.
Confidence was off the charts, so I dropped ~30k on my wife's last student loan payment.
The purists will say I made a financial mistake, but I don't regret a single thing about that decision.

That's where these Student Loan income based plans are going to wreck some people that don't understand their finances.
"Low income" earners are paying $0 a month under Bidens new plan, and interest is a accruing the entire time with hopes politicians don't get rid of the 20 year forgiveness program. Knowing our politicians they're gonna ditch the 20 year forgiveness program by the time people reach the 20 year mark and their debt is going to be insurmountable.
Imagine just nonchalantly carrying tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands in 20 years with interest, in debt on your credit for 20 years making no payments towards it.

I hate to break it to you, but the Great Oppositional Party hasn't proposed jack-shite-all in 70 years. They simply exist to get elected and oppose Democrat propositions then tell their constituents "See I did something!!!!11one!"

Paid my wife’s last one Friday, $60k done. Pay your debts.
See this was my view point so I started paying my loans off immediately when I graduated. Paid one off in a lump sum like 10 years ago, and finished paying them off completely 3 years ago. Meanwhile I have friends with $80k+ debt who have been deferring it forever.
I used to think they were the idiots, now I think I’m the idiot. I’d say odds are student debt gets completely cancelled in the next 5-10 years and all my irresponsible friends are going to never have to pay off their bad decisions

Elementary psychology teaches you that you reward behaviors you want repeated, and punish those you don't want repeated. Dogs and kids are largely the same.
So what have we taught a bunch of your a-hole classmates that spent $10k a year of their loans at Fred's? Do it more.

A) it seems to me the credit bureaus have still been reporting these as past due, just not in default
B) anyone with excess income or luxury item spending who now defaults should be forced to apprentice in a trade or work as supplemental law enforcement (e.g. administrative duties for border patrol freeing up field personnel)

That's not the way it works. You can mail in $5 a month on a $3k debt for years, and you'll be recorded as current.

If the government forgives the student loan debt, will the borrowers have to pick it up as taxable income? Trading one problem for another

Any bill which spends money is supposed to have to originate in the House of Reps. The Executive branch is not authorized to spend money to do anything like this, but it doesn't mean they won't get away with it.

It was lauded on here as a savvy business move for him to not pay on a lease he agreed to pay
I'm curious did he sign the lease, or was it done years prior to him buying Twitter?

He assumed the lease willingly when he bought twitter.
Under no circumstances are you morally or legally justified in intentionally defaulting on a lease just because you bought the entity that is leasing property.
