I would think people would appreciate the long halt on the payments without accruing interest. Seems like a pretty damn good deal already

This actually made me pause and think, but I would just say no more money to Ukraine and pay your loans back. It’s nobody else’s fault or responsibility when someone takes on debt.

I would put the attempted coup to oust a sitting president
Was it also a coup when protesters stormed the SCOTUS confirmation hearings, trying to stop a government process?
I’m sure that’s going to be completely different though, right?

No one gets rich when they do that.

Repayers have had plennnnty of time to get set up

Well hopefully you got a good career to support that! My daughter is a cpa(certified) and makes pretty good(100k) but she owes 40k.
Sounds like money well spent and something she’ll be able to easily afford to repay.

My sister logged in to get up to date on her repayments and found to her surprise that her loan had been forgiven.

Sounds like they were doomed to fail anyways, if that is their approach to finances.

What is a “loan repayment?”

Good. Maybe they’ll get that new car repo’d, lose their house or whatever. Irresponsible behavior without consequences leads to more irresponsible behavior. I’m not gonna feel sorry for people who took on more debt than they can handle. I make good money and have damn near perfect credit. I could go buck wild on debt, but I don’t. Because I grew up poor as frick. frick people who can’t control themselves.

why would I do that with 0% interest?
Well you're one of the fortunate ones.
A lot of folks don't realize that during the "break", interest has still been accruing on their loans...

Fwiw the president I am talking about is Trump. The coup was against him

And there wasn’t a coup attempt against him either. Just your run of the mill ballot harvesting and media interference.
Using the term coup has a very specific meaning.

Because you create a moral hazard where no one repays their debt.

Joe Biden lied to everyone on a national stage knowing this would never pass just to trick the population into thinking their school loans would get paid in order to motivate them to vote blue at mid terms is the biggest travesty in the last 50 yrs.
Pausing student loans started under Trump.

People think a lot of stupid things and make a lot of bad financial decisions. This would be an example of both.
Your daughter’s loans have had a 0.0% interest rate for 3.5 years. How much more of a handout does she need to get ahead.

quote:if your read my post you would know my daughter can easily pay her loans back. She has an excellent career. Others are not so fortunate. The 100s of billions we give to other countries, we shouldn't have to pay for either, so why not give that money back to us? This went right over your head.
Tell her to stop waiting for a handout and be an adult honoring her obligation. We didn’t run up her debt and shouldn’t have to pay for it

If these two conditions existed:
1. the government was not involved in college loans
2. college loans could be discharged with bankruptcy
Then ……. College would cost 35% of what it does now.

Tell your daughter to work the pole and pay back her debt.

We had people in the government that made up 'evidence' to impeach him and relieve him of his duties.
What would you call that?
