Do you plan on turning down social security payments above what you paid in? Why should the student loan generation have to pay for that?

Student loans aren't bankruptable. Great that federalizing student loans in 2010 seems to have fixed the prob... Oh wait. It only got worse, but you all bought into that shite.

As soon as you sign the fricking loan, nothing else matters. You are responsible. I paid mine off when I sold my first house. I clearly shouldn't have done so, and should have "invested" so that I made so much money I still could make a student loan payment like many (except nobody seems to have made money, they invested in UberEats orders.) I shoulda strung it out and waited for forgiveness.

Or stop getting a new "free" phone upgrade every year, work an extra job, and stop clubbing so frequently, or going to brunch every Sunday.

I worked 7 days a week for 5 years after school and paid my $150k student loans back in 8 years…by working hard and sacrificing.

Anyone clamoring for loan forgiveness can kiss my debt free arse.

Paid off the last of my wife’s this morning. They’ve been on pause since Covid. Completely done.

Two wrongs don't make a right! You took out the loan 100% knowing the requirements and stipulations before signing, there is zero excuse for not repaying. The only problem I have with the student loan program, is grossly over loaning for absolutely worthless social (Women's studies, Gay studies and/or African American studies) science degrees.

No you are the problem. You enabled your daughter to think daddy government was going to bail her out of her financial responsibilities. You didn’t teach your daughter to live within her means and to pay back what she owes before adding on more loans. Don’t point the finger at the government for your parental failures.
and your an idiot because you cant comprehend normal literature in a thread. Both of my kids runs circles around your loser arse. My point was you dumb mother fricker is that the federal govt cares more about Ukraine than our own kids or our country for that matter. I bet you dollars to donuts your arse was first in line taking those stimulus checks during covid tho

I'm going to give a giant F U for equity reasons or equality reasons, or whatever.

Long story short, in 2016 I had a rental property because the sales market was shite for a while, and I did better renting it out while I waited for the market to improve. The great BR flood of 2016 happens, and my property gets 16 inches of water. Not in a flood zone, so no flood insurance. Fed declares a natural disaster, so lets see what programs are available to me. Not my primary residence, so no FEMA grants are available. I'm offered an SBA loan to repair damages and loss of income. 7 year term, good interest rate. Covid comes, and the loan gets put on deferment. I'm thinking fine, covid has cut into some of my income, so this helps. April 2022 comes around and I get a bill from SBA saying it's time to start back making payments. And oh by the way, interest has been accruing on my balance for the past two years.

So, I don't feel bad for students that took out loans to pursue their dreams, and now have to start paying them back over 3 years later with zero interest accrued during that time when nature put a loan on my back and the feds couldn't waive the interest during my deferment period.

If they care so much, why do they not check the free flowing loans and loan amounts that cause the problems?

Colleges only get paid from actual loan repayments. Watch the problem solve itself.

Lots of shite to unpack there.

Ummmm....no. Many have said things about it...no one is listening.

quote:

The mere fact that Joe Biden lied to everyone...is the biggest travesty in the last 50 yrs.

Not even in the top 25 list of things a top level government official has done to screw the American people over.

quote:

People spent their money in other areas during the halt thinking those loans were GONE

That's as much your/your daughters fault as his...take some personal responsibility.

quote:

Now people are scrambling to find money to start paying their loan back.

Get to work.

Daughter(no pics and F you) was on phone with Nelnet(who most everyone is paying their school loans back too) to set up her loan repayment schedule and the wait is "400 minutes"

What's there to set up? Why wasn't her previous plan just restarted? No interest accrued. If she was paying $200 a month before covid, why isn't she just restarting her plan that was paused???

1. the government was not involved in college loans

2. college loans could be discharged with bankruptcy

1) totally agree, government has caused the problem by trying to “help”

2) if students loans were all private and dischargeable by bankruptcy, no one would lend the money. There is no collateral.

However, if government got out of the SL business and lenders looked at GPA and ability to pay back based on career path, then the problem would fix itself to a certain degree.

Private loans do exist in the current model. The federal government doesn’t lend enough money to pay to attend medical school or law school, for example.

The issue is the colleges. Not the concept.

The cost of college is silly. And that’s been largely driven by the ease of access to student loans that the colleges will get 100% of their money from even if the degree is worthless or the job market doesn’t support the roi. There are no incentives for schools to control costs. They add fees and spend millions on bullshite and then pass the cost on to the kids.

if you read this thread you'll see that she was callin to ask a question about consolidation of different school loans. She hung up when she saw it was a 400 minute wait

she just paid her first note of her loans

My son paid his off in 1 shot after still living at home(no bills and 22 yrs old) and saving his checks from work. He sent them the pay off yesterday. My daughter however is paying a note on her loans. She makes really well but she is on her own and has her own set of bills. Her rent alone is 3300 a month. Yes, she is an OT ballerette.
