Why hasn't the French Quarter moved to a car-free zone?

Allow for delivery/cabs/emergency vehicles but no longer allow people to drive and park on the street in the quarter. If you have off-street parking ok. This would allow for more side walk dining/seating and pedestrians in the street. It would be such a more pleasant experience for everyone.

Car free zones are much nicer areas so this is a valid idea.

Lot of residential units. Street parking in the quarter is their only way to park. Makes sense though to make Bourbon and Royal zero cars though.

Sorry. Park somewhere else

Because people actually have lives there. Not just an area for shitheel tourists like you.

Car jacking is new orleans' 3rd or 4th most popular source of income. Can't be limiting those opportunities

Very well thought out and rational.

Because 99% of leaders in Louisiana are dumbasses and never get anything done

The quarter is much bigger than Bourbon St. There are tons of residents that actually live in the quarter.

F all you "walkable cities" people.

It would be a major pain in the arse but Highland rd thru campus should be car free. I dodge students on the daily who are blissfully unaware of traffic signals, cross walks, etc. It amazes me everyday how more students aren’t hit by cars.

So limit street parking to the mostly residential dense areas and not in the more commercial areas. Again it would be such a better experience for everyone

It's also kind of hard to do a drive-by shooting if you can't drive.

Step away from Bourbon St during the daytime. Most of the Quarter is a relatively quiet residential area. Bourbon and Royal are often closed to vehicles at busy times, making them a pedestrian promenade. No need for anything else.
When they have closed the whole Quarter to vehicles, such as during a Super Bowl or other special event, I's a pain in the arse for anyone trying to get down there.

Not for the people who want to drive on the streets.

Pretty sure it would be determined to be racist, since it would limit the equitable distributing of short term vehicle use.

How are Uber/Lyft/airport/hotel shuttles and cabs supposed to get their customers to hotels and restaurants?

Rich people with cars live there.
