Trump's strategy seems to be ingratiating himself with the independents and disappointed Democrats.

There is a rightward shift in response to the Left going too far

Thinking “well, the voters just don’t get it” is the winning pivot at this point, isn’t.

Trump is there to cast the widest net, and his strength in his head-to-head polls against Biden is shoring up his base in the primary as well in the process.
In translation this leaves us with a populist candidate that has leftist fiscal policies.

But why didn't DeSantis see this coming a mile away? Any casual observer could see it.
He should be sitting on the sideline like a 800lb gorilla for 2028, still a young man in his 40s.
In January I said his time on the national stage would be brief if he ran against Trump. I was correct. It was just stupid.
He listened to some of the most out of touch people in politics, neverTrump morons.

Now I wait for them to reply to this post pretending they still have a clue.
Just pay attention when they post. The are a lot more interested in Trump losing than Desantis winning.
None of them believe that Desantis can win now. Some pretend that he can to justify his presence in the race.

CNN says Trump is behind Biden double digits in New Hampshire.
A state that Biden lost to Bernie big time in 2020.

DeSantis has made a number of errors. Deciding to run was one of them. Thinking Republican voters would be fooled by Social conservative platitudes was one of them.

No there aren't. There are a few RDS supporters that won't vote for Trump, but that's a small percentage of overall RDS supporters.
Didn't you post the other day that in your estimation, over 20% of MAGA would not vote for DeSantis if he somehow ended up winning the primary?

There are legit reasons to stay in a race that your statistical probability of winning is near zero.

They will say it's because the indictments boosted Trump which is true.

What makes you think he didn't?
Maybe he didn't think y'all were stupid enough to keep falling for it.

If you're still worried about what he's saying in courting the center
I'm not concerned about the things Trump says. I'm fully aware that he'll say anything to get elected. If he says something I agree with, I understand his words shouldn't be taken seriously, just like when he says something I disagree with.
My concern is with Republicans who will abandon conservatives positions just because Trump has taken a left position. I'm also concerned when Trump attacks conservative governance in Florida and a large portion of the party joins him.
His words are damaging when Republicans are abandoning everything we've stood for just to pass a loyalty test.

I'd say the same of Trump Loyalists. They care more about Trump being the nominee than beating Democrats.
Why is that?

There are some who will never support Trump. It’s a reality no matter how much support he has. Suburban whites women being critical in the race.
This race will entirely fall one way or another based on third party candidacies. If No Labels runs a ticket like Manchin/Sununun, which I think is entirely possible given that I do not believe Manchin will run for reelection and is going to blame much of his circumstance on Biden, Trump easily wins. If No Labels runs a ticket like Romney/RFK Jr., then Biden will likely cruise into an easy reelection win.
Even with just Cornell West in the race, if he pulls 5-8% of the black vote, and Trump can top 10-12%, Trump will coast in.

I was told that we just had to wait for him to announce he was running and voters would flock to him. His numbers would skyrocket.
I would flock to Ron.. in 2028.. not this cycle.

Yes.

I know. I’ve been saying it for a long time. It’s why Christie, Pence, Asa, and Desantis are in the race. The goal is to sink Trump in the general.
