Would the highest paid lawyer in Baton Rouge be a corporate lawyer or billboard lawyer?

Went to my high school reunion the other day and had a girl in my class who's brother makes over $10,000,000 a year as a law partner in Houston.

Obviously, Baton Rouge isn't the market Houston is but I imagine they got some big rainmakers.

Eta: Billboard Lawyers = car accident lawyers.

Billboard lawyers, but in the big leagues, corporate law wins. Being a corporate lawyer for Pluckers can’t be that great.

It will be a personal injury lawyer, and will usually change from year to year depending on how many cases they settle and if they hit a big one. Corporate lawyers are tied to their hourly billing. Baton Rouge does not command very high hourly rates, like you'd have in a major city. And there are only so many hours in the day you can bill. Personal injury lawyers typically are paid a contingency fee of 25% - 50% of the award/settlement.

Average Biglaw partner probably makes about $1.3m in comp, and the top partners at firms like Kirkland & Ellis top $20m, maybe max out at $30m.

In a market like BR partners are probably all under $3m probably significantly.

The major settlement mills if designed as a pyramid with one guy at the top could easily put over $3m in comp in the named attorney's pocket. My guess would a PI lawyers owns the comp title in BR.

One thing to note is Biglaw partner's comp can vary significantly year to year especially in a eat what you kill firm. Comp for Biglaw rose 30% or more between '20 and '22 on average but this year is off.

I've always wanted to email Better Call Saul creator and writer Vince Gilligan to see if he could imagine a PI attorney resort to things like bible quotes on billboards.

Saul Goodman was supposed to be a stereotype.

Meanwhile, Gordon actually puts up billboards like this:

Is there any other lawyer in the country who could possible be this vile?

Gordon probably pulls the most, but some of the big corporate law guys are probably next in line.

If you can get in, corporate law or insurance defense is just much safer career path. Lots of personal injury lawyers that struggle greatly. Not many corporate lawyers struggling to provide. Personal injury is become more and more top heavy in Baton Rouge

Billboard lawyers don’t hold a candle to the highest rainmakers at the big corporate firms.

They’ll make millions year after year after year. Billing $1,000 or more per hour. They just don’t usually shove it in everybody’s face with a new Lambo and side bimbo to match every few months.

There’s a difference between being wealthy and rich.

I’m not sure of the answer to your question. But, this got me thinking and wondering has anyone ever seen a female billboard lawyer? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

I dated a girl a few years ago whose relative was head of litigation at one of the major firms in Houston. He made about 750k. I'm not saying your friend is lying. But...
