I am also pretty certain there are laws that prevent dipshits from trying to drag a helicopter under an overpass with a low clearance that trump this.

I don’t see a bridge height marker, maybe its out of picture.
Also, I wonder how close it was. That road seems to to angle from left to right with the right side being a bit bigger (taller due to lower road) for water drainage. I wonder if they measured the right lane only but since its a wide load he of course straddled both lanes which would give it less room. An inch or two can make all the difference.
Thats a huge screw up, gonna be an expensive hanger queen (parts helo).

The internet says a S-92 is nearly 18' tall. Assuming they can make it a bit shorter by removing the rotor/components up top that trailer will still be 12"-18" off the ground. Someone said they had a high pole escort, it's been a while since we've done anything requiring a high pole but I believe that means it would've been over 16' tall.

There are lots of things that can ground the aircraft. It could be an inspection due, it could be a crack somewhere. Most things can be fixed at whatever base this belongs but sometimes it has to go in for major repairs and it can't safely fly there. Whatever it was, this now needs a transmission and head lol.

You can see in the article pictures where the sign used to be on the overpass. Ain’t dere nomo.
Also that’s a strange place for it to hit the bridge. If he’s heading east and got off at that intersection, why wouldn’t he stop at the pilot? Also why would he head north on range?

You're right, it's missing in the media pictures. Street view is from June of this year so it's pretty recent. The south side street view has one posted on the overpass itself.
One of the trucking people in the thread will have to answer, do you have to file a route plan when hauling something like this to check clearances?

That's my concern also. The helicopter is a mess but what about the interstate? Geez if that is compromised that mistake is going to be even worse than it was. The ramifications of structure damage right there will be catastrophic.
