One of the trucking people in the thread will have to answer, do you have to file a route plan when hauling something like this to check clearances?

Same picture has the pole truck behind the helicopter. Seems like the wrong place to me.

Fixable but man that is going to be spendy. Not only the main rotor hub, the main gearbox, mast shaft, all the structure that the main gearbox bolts to is probably ripped to shreds. All depends on weather or not Lockheed Martin (owns Sikorsky) will want to work on a repair scheme or just part it out. Glad its not my problem.

Edit on seeing another picture, the aircraft is off the lowboy on the left side..main landing gear is on the cement, which means the belly of the aircraft is laying on the lowboy

Yes, when applying for a permit you have to provide all your dimensions, based on those dims DOT will issue you a route that you have to stick to. You're allowed to exit for fuel/etc but when dealing with something high you try to find stops that are on the same side the interstate you are, so that you don't have to worry about this sort of thing happening.

What do you think the odds are that the missing sign is in the back of the pole truck, having been cut down right after the accident?

I can't imagine an insurance carrier ever signing off on that bird going forward. What a waste.

maybe just an optical illusion but if he did not hit the head he would have gotten the vertical fin and tail rotor gear box. He chose poorly

Yep that's a 92 for sure. The owner is gonna be real pissed cause you can't hardly get parts for them

Well somebody will now because this one is gonna be a parts whore. Looks like the whole rotor mast is a goner. No telling how much other damage to the gear box given the fluid leaking

Well that explains why the delivery took so long to get to my private helipad.

I continue to be stunned by the utter stupidity of people involved in these kinds of things when there is so much potential money involved. If you own this helicopter (military or not), would you not make sure to measure the ride height on the trailer and plan a route in accordance? Same for the truck driver. I would even think the insurance company would have something to say in this situation. Stupidity continues to saturate this country.
