He led the way in making it affordable and practical for an average consumer. Now he’s doing it with satellite based internet. Love him or hate him, the man is a visionary who has dragged humanity forward kicking and screaming.

Has Twitter ever been cash flow positive in a quarter? Honestly don't know. This move doesn't seem like it would help if no.

Tough call. The rise of AI has made bots significantly harder to deal with. You could charge a monthly fee to rid the space of bots, but it would have to be enough so botters wouldn't bother, but not too expensive for the average user. Its kind of a no win. I'm stuck with Elon on Starlink and they have made some really stupid decisions, like data caps, but that was reversed because so many people bailed out. Love him or hate him, he is willing to try different ideas. Not personally a user of twitx, so don't care too much.

Good. Then the biggest threat to society can have a smaller impact, especially to our extremely gullible boomer generation.

Can't tell you how many post I've seen in the last week on Facebook of people "opting out" of being charged for Facebook

Would kill Twitter.

Eta: or would simply create more of its own bubble with media talking to media heads

At least his company never needed a massive multi billion dollar government bailout. I suppose you refuse to drive Ford, GM or Chrysler products too?

He really is trying to run Twitter into the ground.

I don't care though, doesn't affect me.

X is a free kitten. Free = snake food. You always charge a couple bucks to keep the freaks away.

It’s a trial balloon to see how the public reacts. Elon is counting on all the sheeple to go along with it.

This is big point that needs to be stated in every “eLoN iS gOiNg tO kIlL tWiTtEr” post

Twitter is not, and has never been profitable. No matter what Elon does or has done, it really can’t get any worse.

It’ll either get saved or go belly up, but the status quo of Twitter before wasn’t successful or able to be continued. The media just didn’t care enough to dig into how poorly run it was

Him buying it didn’t kill it
The layoffs didn’t kill it
The blue check mark charging didn’t kill it
Mastodon or Threads or other alternatives didn’t kill it
Changing the name to X hasn’t killed it

He bought something people got addicted to for free. Now he will charge for it. And they’ll pay it
