It all started with this post from the Hodge Twins:
And as often happens in the social media age, people started attacking Liberty. Feeling the pressure, Liberty posted this response
Twitter
Which begs the question: why does Liberty have backdoor access to customer's safes?
Is that normal in the safe industry?
Was Liberty legally required to comply with the FBI?
ETA: Liberty has issued another press release after facing backlash for releasing backdoor access codes without a court order

Last week, a friend of ours was raided by the feds over J6, his name is Nathan Hughes and he’s from Fayetteville, Arkansas. Nate was raided by the FBI and arrested at gun point. His girlfriend (who just had a miscarriage) was held at gun point and put in handcuffs. The FBI turned off his security cameras, unplugged his internet, and flipped his house upside down in a search. The feds called the manufacturer of his Liberty Gun Safe and got the passcode to get into it too. All for protesting at the Capitol over 2 1/2 years ago.

Technology is a double edged sword. These days, you can be located via your phone or automobile almost anywhere.

Meh, the Feds are getting in that safe with or without cooperation from Liberty.

They were getting destroyed in the comments to the post, so they have turned off replies.

saw that trending last night.
They shouldn't have done it to begin with, but doing it to an associate of a decently known pair of political activists was a bigger mistake.

Yep, either give them the code or they are going to bust it open. They were getting in that safe no matter what.

Make the feds work for it

Option A - Liberty Safe doesn’t provide master code. FEDs still open safe but destroy it in process.
Option B - Liberty Safe provides code under warrant. FEDs open safe and keep it intact and valuable for owner.
Am I way off?

Correct so it should’ve been done 100% without the help of Liberty.

I guess now we know to only buy our safes second hand, scratch off the serial number so the manufacturer can't tell which one it is, and to get one without electronic passkey entry, go with the metal turn handle.

At least, make them issue a warrant TO Liberty Safe.

Kind of besides the point, though. Its not that the FBI would have gained access eventually, its that a company that branded itself as a liberty loving organization so quickly capitulated to an increasingly authoritarian law enforcement.
If Liberty is keeping backdoor access codes, what happens if those codes are leaked? The whole point of the safe is to keep people from accessing it.

If you have nothing to hide..
What if there's child porn in there? You saying we shouldn't give police a backdoor to protect our children?

I doubt the feds even asked the safe owner for the code.

OPTION B is bullshite. Let the government destroy it. It’s beyond comprehension why people are still giving this corrupt fricking government more power.
