The article conflates wealth with income. Think of this as the highest income zip codes (or at least the highest taxed zip codes). Not necessarily the wealthiest although there is likely a correlation between income and wealth.

quote:

When it comes to the richest zip codes in Louisiana, you're probably thinking bigger zip codes in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas take up the entire top 10.

While those areas certainly take up quite a few spots on the list, you might be surprised to see what other zipcodes are sprinkled throughout the top 10 and top 20.

Here are the top 10:

70124 - New Orleans (Lakeview; West End part of New Orleans)
70503 - Lafayette (Bendel; West Bayou Pkwy)
71407 - Grant Parish (Bentley, LA - north of Alexandria)
70783 - Pointe Coupee Parish (New Roads; Ventress - north of Baton Rouge)
70810 - Baton Rouge (CCLA; Oak Hills, Highland in St. George)
70447 - St Tammany Parish (Madisonville)
70734 - Ascension Parish (Dutchtown area west of I-10)
70115 - New Orleans (St. Charles, Octavia, Magazine St. area)
70030 - Lafourche, St. Charles Parish (Bayou Gauche...I can't explain this one - mostly swamp).
70817 - Baton Rouge (Shenandoah, Old Jefferson, Wood Duck Dr. area in St. George)

I for one can't believe Port Allen didn't make the list. That's the epicenter of class, culture, and wealth in Louisiana.

If you’re not in 70503 or 70508 in Lafayette, you might as well be in New Iberia or Opelousas

How is old Metairie not in that list? Seems suspect.

It doesn't matter that our zip code is on the list. Our kids who go to private colleges in other states are always amazed at how much wealth there is elsewhere. There are other levels of wealth that we don't see here.

Old Metairie, Audubon area, bocage, capital heights, seems like they missed all the big area to me.
