OP is displaying an incredible lack of economic understanding conflating economic quotes and theories in a childish, 1 dimensional way that showcases how little they fundamentally comprehend.
What OP is missing, and what any of these economists would tell you, is that in this situation you have a country already providing unfair advantages to these sectors distorting the natural economic factors that would determine efficient allocation of resources, price and production.
These responsive tariffs would work to restore those factors closer to a naturally balanced free market economy, yes possibly increasing costs and costing direct or indirect shifts in job mix…
Every economist listed or quoted would agree that a tariff response is an acceptable economic response to said situation. Ironically one of them quoted actually helped the US to design just such a tariff.
OP you’re not an educated intellectual you’re a no talent arse clown.

Trump already crashed the economy during his first term, wait never mind

He won’t be president so it really doesn’t matter.

We would need tariffs if our corrupt government didn’t have such struck regulations on us . If our government only allowed product to enter this country that had to deal with the same regulations as our business then hardly anything would be important. Tariffs is just a way for the president to try and even the playing field.

What about us making those goods? What about the new jobs from us building the infrastructure to create those products? This article seems to be arguing a point and not presenting anything else.

Just ask yourself this OP, how was your life economically speaking under Trumps 4 years in office? Yeah that's what I thought.

China has MFN status.
China subsidizes its industry.
That subsidized industry undercuts its competitors in the USA, running them out of business.
This is the norm, and it isn’t a free market.
The real question is, why do you love the CCP and hate Americans?

How is this conservatism?
I am all in for conservatism, but imports of some items kill some of our domestic markets of fishing and manufacturing.
Something needs to be done. I saw where Shrimpers were getting less than a dollar a pound. The price per pound for shrimp was even more ridiculous when you compare that to the prices paid at the store. Whether that is an issue with the processors, wholesalers, or something else, something should be done. I know this sounds weird from a conservative, but maybe classify shrimping or fisheries industries as farming to give them protections and benefits that farmers have through the farm bills. Lets not forget about the poor conditions that imported farm shrimp is raised in and antibiotics used.
On the manufacturing side, until companies realize that they are giving China a blanket license to manufacture their goods for them and millions of other white label goods from other no name brands of the same item, they will realize their fallacy. Right now all they see is that they can make this item for 39 cents in China but it would cost 2 dollars to make it in the US, and still sell it for 10 dollars.

How does one estimate the value of keeping all important manufacturing within the country and more fully employing citizens rather than outsourcing to other countries? I get the anti-conservativism argument against tariffs, but only ever see it discussed in a pure “raises prices to consumers” context. While that may be true, there is also value in not being beholden to other countries for critical materials, manufacturing, etc. How much of a “tax” is worth the stability of not relying on other countries and keeping those jobs at home?

Because conservatism in all these post-Reagan years has brought exactly what wins to advance the cause of conservatism for America and Americans?
What your (evidently) thick heads never seem to comprehend is if your brand of conservatism had delivered on any promises these past 30+ years, people wouldn’t have been looking for an alternative or a “Trump”.
People don’t tend to go looking elsewhere if the party leadership as it had been all those years had been delivering.
The GOP failure to match their talk and continual promises left the door wide open for populism.
Again, I’m open to learning if you want to remind everyone of all the good things HW Bush and W Bush brought forward for the 12 years they held the WH in this post-RR era to advance America, Americans and conservative values.
Conservatives only have themselves to thank for squandering the opportunities they had time and time again to actually do something.
Now you want to get pizzed off at everyone else who grew tired of the empty goods and looked elsewhere.
And don’t forget, you can also thank populist Trump for helping in getting the most conservative Supreme Court we’ve had in a long time.

Why do you support raising taxes on Americans?
