Why not start your own HVAC company? In Louisiana it doesn’t require general liability insurance (I don’t think) and the licensing fees are small vs getting butt fricked by a real hvac company

Lifted trucks and wrapped vans do not pay for themselves. Same for the latest and greatest Snapon Toolset in the van.

Tell me you don't understand a damn thing about how a business runs without saying it.

As far as the cost of new units blame the Democrats.

$4700 is probably about the cost of those materials now. I don't think anyone is doing the job for free. It's an 8 hour job, and usually requires 2 laborers to meet that timeline.

8 hours? One guy did mine, I helped get the old furnace out of the attic and get the new one up there. Outside unit was simply lift the old off the stand and putting the new one up there. Whole job took about 3 hours.

I would suggest Heloc, however times are tough these days with sky high rates. Therefore, I probably would shop around different HVAC companies to see what offer. Most of them will offer to finance your system. Some may offer a discount if you join their maintenance program. Don't hesitate to shop around. Also check with your bank or credit union.

Yes they do. Find a good company. Our system was new when we bought and they come out twice a year to inspect and service. Everything is under warranty.

I have financed before. You cannot live without AC and throwing bits of money here and there at an old inefficient system makes no sense to me, especially when it craps out on a Friday night. My new one knocked down my electric bill, had few repairs over 13 years, and it was a 0% rate. It’s OK to finance it.

Mine was $27k 0% interest for 7 years.
The 4 or 5 other quotes I had were around $21-24k and they were all 1% or 1.9%.

If you move, you have to pay it in full, so you better have that money or you better have the equity in your house.

I get the holding onto cash 0% just seems so easy with a low monthly payment but I find folks never pay these off and just get moving that amount somewhere else in most cases. We used to do that ourselves.

We replaced our unit last summer went American standard 16 seer /5 ton everything but duct work out the door 8k

We keep an emergency fund so that we can combat this type of issue right a check and be done.

If all the money goes for one repair we have to tighten up for 4-5 months and get the fund built back up.

It’s not easy but it works for us. I can see the other side very easily just not how we choose to go about things.

I just had to put $500 of Freon in a couple weeks ago. Evaporator coil appears to have a leak…he quoted $3800 to replace the coil. He said a full interior replacement would be about $8K.

Currently have a Trane and they are a Carrier aligned company so new one would be Carrier with a 10 year warranty. That sound right? Two story house with one A/C so dual zone capable.

And you have to look at the total deal. The 0% could be for a certain number of months and if not paid off, the interest is calculated now from day one, further extending the payoff into the future. Also, some lenders play tricks with other terms as this being a nonsecured loan and not a second mortgage unless you are late or default. Then, when you are supposed to make that 1st payment, they give you the runaround and it is late and now you are in default. That was from one review of a company that offers easy financing.

Go to Coburn's and take the test. They give you the study materials and the test for like $200. With that, you can buy and handle refrigerant.

That is only part of it, though. Sizing and laying out a unit properly, especially based on insulation type is critical. Even changing out a unit these days isn't as simple as it used to be with all of the changes they have implemented.

I would like to do that. I'm old but also don't intend to do it as a profession.

Just knowing how to do it would be comforting.

So how bad are Tranes? I figured they are over-hyped but that's marketing.

Are Yorx, Rheem., Carrier etc good brands?

4 years ago we got a full install with a 20 seer variable speed 4 ton ac. Got the big air filter, ultraviolet light and propane furnace.

Have already had 2 compressors replaced. The ac works great with variable speed, but when it's broken it sucks. My dad put in a full carrier heat pump and has never had an issue with it in the last 7 yrs.

3 units. All at different addresses with different installers and all kept under maintenance programs since installations. Every one had a coil failure within the first 4 years. The warranties are complete shite and they even canceled one extended warranty because of a registration error. They fricking suck and they’ve been sued over how big of a giant piece of shite their coils are. The only thing worse than the product is the actually company itself followed by the assholes who sell that shite.
