Congressional caucus seeks to preserve 18 college stadiums (Including Tiger Stadium)

The Congressional Historic Stadium Caucus launched Friday with the intent of preserving and modernizing historic college football stadiums across the country.
U.S. Reps. Garret Graves, R-La. and Mark Pocan, D-Wis. made the announcement as co-chairs stating that they wish to protect "the integrity of these treasured venues … while enhancing their capabilities."
The 18 stadiums targeted for preservation and upgrades include some of the oldest and most famous college football venues in the nation. The intended upgrades come at time when, in the next five years, some of the stadiums could be hosting College Football Playoff games. In the case of the Rose Bowl and Los Angeles Coliseum, they will also host the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Specifically, the caucus wants to target security enhancements, technological upgrades and create infrastructure upgrades for the stadiums, some of which are more than 120 years old.
The last thing Tiger Stadium needs is TSA Security groping us at the entry points

"When Tiger fans walk into Death Valley on Saturday nights, they do more than watch a football game," Graves said. "They walk into a 99-year-old local icon that supports our regional economy. Every bowl of jambalaya scooped and Tiger Dog served injects jobs and resources into our community."
The CFP will expand to a 12-team field beginning in 2024. Conceivably, 15 of the 18 stadiums -- home of FBS schools -- could host first-round playoff games.
In 2028, the L.A. Coliseum and Rose Bowl will become the first venues to host three Olympic Games. The Coliseum underwent a $300 million renovation from 2017-19 as part of an upgrade for USC football. Several other venues have undergone improvements over the years.

That's all well and good but I feel like most of these aren't really lacking for funding.

I wish they would worry about getting inflation down or not sending billions of dollars to Ukraine instead of this shite

That's what makes me so skeptical of the federal government's helping hand. Its not needed. They just want control over these stadiums. The question is why?

The Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl are dumps and you have brand new stadiums in close proximity

Already happening to some extent. In 2019 Trump attended the Bama - LSU game in Tusc. That game was 100% metal detectors and bag inspections run by the Secret Service, not by poophead contractors. Never mind the SS Snipers that were positioned in the stadium!
It was said by then that all SEC teams would be required to be 100% metal detector entry by some date that should be coming up soon.

This is why we're paying our representatives

It was supposed to be enacted in 2020 but then ... well ... you know.

Sorry, but some of these stadiums aren’t “treasured venues”. South Carolina….really? Miss St….huh?

Somehow the skeptic in me knows there is a hidden agenda.
The fine print may allow the feds to commandeer the stadiums for their own use.

The government needs to just stay away from our stadium. Nothing good will come of this.

You guys are looking at this all the wrong way. That means the Chicken Memorial PVC pipe will now be a national historic landmark!

Another example of something our national government should stay out of. You can bet every college with a stadium is going to be jumping on the bandwagon -- "Hey, what about us?" This will allow the national government to get their fingers into the university athletic departments.

Yeah because this is the shite we need our elected representatives working on in DC...

Yeah, but will one of the enhancements be better concessions?????

I was vastly under whelmed when we went to the LSU vs UCLA game the stadium views were very nice but the stadium and concession layout sucked balls.

This is pronounced "Regardless of what your well paid and qualified civil engineers say, we want God power on who does what, how they do it, when they do it, and who pays for it"
