Hot take- England doesn’t make it out of their group
Posted on 8/24/23 at 9:20 pm to More beer please
You can get 12-1 on that

World Rugby is so dumb for doing seeding for this Fall 2023 tournament back in January 2020. The current top 5 teams in teh world are on the same side of the bracket and only 2 of them can advance to the semifinals.
Happy to have a viewing friendly time zone compared to last RWC.

I think Wales will also not advance out of their group. I see Australia winning Pool C pretty easily with Fiji or Georgia taking 2nd.
Looks like FanDuel pulled the futures markets. But they had Namibia to finish last in Pool A at -185. Namibia has never won a RWC match, 0-22.

Found Namibia to finish last on MGM at -175.
Also taking that England eliminated in pool play at +1200.
Also taking Wales eliminated in pool play at +280. And realizing that this pick isn't that hot of a take considering the odds show a 28% implied probability.

As an Irish fan, I am beyond pumped....but have had my dreams crushed too many times to get too optimistic.
I remember sitting in Cardiff in 2015 lookin at POC and others injured on the sideline while Argentina played so great in that QF and eliminated them...
Or Japan upsetting them in 2019..
But I do feel this team is different.
Making two trips to France for the RWC (no, not bragging, but I save up for 4 years for this)...first is part of the wifes and I 20th anniversary...she actually had fun at the 2015 RWC so if she can do that in Leeds, Nice and Paris will be great
Matches I am seeing
Nice
Wales - Portugal - go Portugal...dont lose by 50
England - Japan - come on Japan
Italy - Uruguay - hoping for a fun match
Lyon
NZ - Uruguay - Uruguay gets crushed but hope for a good atmosphere
Italy - France - Forza...little chance for Italy but will be a fun match
Lille
Romania vs Tonga - going since I will be in country...and I like the minnow matches
Paris
Ireland - SA
Ireland - Scotland
The first QFs which should be (Ire vs NZ or Fr and SA vs NZ or Fr)

Speaking of world rugby. South Africa vs New Zealand is live right now on FloSports. One hell of a warm-up 2 weeks out. I'm not one to spoil scores but...
And other solid warmup matches tomorrow. All times local (Central).

Damn.. Not one team from N America even qualified? And only three teams total from the entire Western hemisphere?
I had no idea US and most others on this side of the world were so far down the ladder in terms of Rugby talent and team.

You would think the US would at least be able to get world class mercenaries who are not good enough for the big boy teams.

The US has more talent than a few teams in the RWC...their issue for the past 15-20 years is coaching.
They keep bringing in coaches who are very good at coaching in their countries, but do not adapt to the strengths of the US players.
For example, kick and chase is not tailor made for the US...
Oh well...they better get their act together as we are hosting in 2031

Rugby is growing at a pretty good pace here and the US should be in a good spot by 2031. They won’t contend for the win, but should be able to make some noise.
