Lol at trying to say A&M was part of why the NCAA went after SMU when the NCAA was trying just as hard to screw us too. We had no power w/them at all. shite, that was right around the same time they forced Jackie Sherrill out under our own threat of the death penalty and then just a couple years later gave us a TV/bowl ban for a year b/c Greg Hill worked at a place that would let employees leave if their work for the day was done. \

Houston thought they were bad asses and played Miami on a Thursday night ESPN game. First time the whole country was pulling for Miami. Miami beat the hell out of them. and I mean beat.

I will say this about Jackie Sherrill he absolutely owned the Longhorns. Regardless when JR Ewing’s evil twin Ron Meyer showed up to SMU things changed. He started signing recruits that Longhorns and Aggie badly wanted. He also started SMU’s five game win streak over Aggie and had SMU avoided probation it would have continued in 85 and 86 etc.
But you are correct beating Texas was a death sentence in SWC they would squeal to NCAA about anyone who dared to out Recruit them or beat them on the field (or both). Sherrill would have continued his dominance over Texas as well had he not been run off by NCAA etc.

Thought it was the LSU/Auburn interception game. Listened on radio. Still don't know how we won. War Eagle!

That same ragtag SMU team whipped Vandy up and down the field to win the opening game 44-7 the following season.
If you're wondering what the worst SEC team of alltime is, the honor belongs to the 1990 Vanderbilt Commodores. They started 9 freshmen on defense. Auburn played second and third teamers almost the entire game and still beat them by 50.
Yet somehow LSU lost to that team.

Thanks for posting.
It’s cool to see any game inside the Astrodome.

Sherrill and Meyer would be two of the top coaches in college football with the new rules of today. If Sherrill could have stayed at College Station, aggy would have a much more storied program.

Texas has already destroyed two conferences. Letting those figs in the SEC is a huge mistake.
I’m going to say they destroyed 3 conferences.

Texas A&M giving Eric Dickerson a car just to watch him sign with SMU anyway is some of the funniest shite ever

SMU got put on probation because they started to beat the Longhorns and Aggies and they just couldn’t have that. Were the Aggies being ‘discrete’ buying the Trans A&M for Dickerson? They were all doing the same things.

Ironically, Texas saved the Big 12 back in 2010.

Meh. SMU picked up the payments. At least there was honor among thieves back then.

Think i was at that game as kid. Just remember the UH air raid siren going off over and over again in the Dome..
When I mention that game to my dad, he always remembers Klingler throwing a pass and turning to walk to the sideline unbuckling his chinstrap without even watching to see the receiver run into the end zone.

Bear always said it was Texas who got the Aggies on probation when he coached there.
There was one point in SWC where almost all the members were in NCAA trouble. Arkansas did the same thing. Got Ole Miss on probation too in the 80's.

The old SWC was some real professional cheaters. Have to respect their hustle.
There was no half-arse cheating in that conference
