Christie says DeSantis should drop out if he defends Trump at debate

If Gov. Ron DeSantis follows political consultants’ advice to defend former President Donald Trump during the first Republican presidential debate next week, then he should “get the hell out of the race,” former Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey said Friday, poking DeSantis from his home state of Florida.
“He should do Donald Trump a favor and do our party a favor, come back to Tallahassee and endorse Donald Trump,” Christie said to applause before a friendly crowd in South Miami. “The only way to beat someone,” he added, “is to beat him.”
Christie mocked a strategy memo, internal polling and other data published online by a firm associated with a super political action committee that has effectively taken over DeSantis’ campaign. With unusual bluntness, the documents suggested that DeSantis defend Trump against Christie’s expected debate attacks. The documents advised DeSantis to credit Trump for his accomplishments, but add that it is time for a new standard-bearer.

He should never have gotten involved in the first place.

Christie should drop some weight

Cardiac Christie can be safely ignored by everyone.

The defending trump strategy is a loser. See 2016.

Vivek will be the only one chumming up to Trump bc he’s grifting MAGA.
Everyone else is going to hit Trump hard.
Everyone else is going to hit Trump hard.

Christie’s only purpose is to serve as an attack dog and try to finally bust the focal center of the MAGA movement.
Remove the focal point and kill the movement.
If DeSantis isn’t going to play the game then he’s of no use to them either.
Just like they did with the Tea Party years ago, the establishment global neocon Republicans are seeking to obliterate the greatest threat to their own continued control of the party.

No one can win by alienating Trump's people.
Sounds like Ron's consultant understands that.

Less donuts is what Christie should be focusing on.

Christie is right as usual. He seems to be the only one willing to "tell it like it is" this cycle. No one likes a coward so if Desantis wants to be respected, he shouldn't try to defend Trump. That would be absolutely pathetic. If you are too scared to criticize your main rival, why are you even running? Just drop out.

I agree with Christie on this.
DeSantis refuses to point out Trump's failures and call him out by name. No way he gets any traction with these tactics.
In a recent interview he said that the trillions spent in 2020 was too much, "and that includes republicans", while naming Biden concerning the spending in 2021/2022.
Refusing to name Trump when talking about his frick ups is a incredibly bad strategy.
Great governor and leader but apparently a horrendous campaigner.
*He still has my vote mouthbreathers.

frick Christie, he would sell his children if it gave him a job at CNN at this point.
DeSantis is going to do what he always does, speak truths. He will talk about the 2 Tiered Justice system and how the prosecution is ridiculous but will focus on how that's a lot bigger than just one Billionaire. It's about the little people who say a prayer outside an abortion clinic or dare to do something the regime doesn't like. He will also talk about the hypocrisy with the Bidens and BLM and others.
Who wants sane leadership though?

Christie is actually dangerous in a debate. He isn't a threat to win the nomination, but he absolutely put Rubio's head on a pike. My guess is he's in this to put a few more folks in body bags.

Christie takes more room up than the crowd he has. He’s another one who jumped the shark years back. He doubles down stupid nowadays

Literally nobody cares what
Suck it Chris

The narrative in this Thread pretty much predicts the outcome of the Debate. Attack Trump and lose Trump Nation or defend Trump and lose the GOPe RINOs/“never Trumpers “. Lose lose for Ron any way you cut it, thanks to Christie. Would be fun to see Tucker ask them if they believe that Blinken’s letter and those who signed it committed criminal Election Tampering. That alone gave Joe the cover for a ‘win’. If so, would they promise an AG who would prosecute to the max like Garland is doing Trump? Would love to here our next Pres handle that hot potato.

This guy doesn’t have the balls to be President.

My ideal moment at the debate would be:
Chrispycream - "Governor DeSantis should quit defending Donald Trump or get out of this race."
DeSantis - "Look, what we need here is new leadership, and by that I mean, not someone who's never eaten a salad."

This is why the GOP loses.
