Jesus.

Talk about setting someone up to fail.

This is why Ohtani needs to get the Hell away from there.

Just because your conventional wisdom says a guy should play x amount in the minors doesn’t mean it’s correct.

Their SS Neto was their 1st round pick last year and I believe he made the opening day roster.

I think it was about two weeks in, but still super early. He has held his own though.

Where do y'all think Ohtani ends up after free agency? There can't be too many suitors. I'm gonna say the Cubs. What say you?

They've been aggressively promoting a lot of their draft picks the last few years. Scouts already thought Schanuel would be one of the quickest guys through the minors from this draft.

To me, it's kind of nice to see an org promote a guy they think can help them now and worry less about starting their clock. (though they did wait until the point in the season that he would still retain rookie eligibility for next year)

That conventional wisdom should never be challenged? Hot take

If this were the Braves, Astros, Dodgers, or Rays, orginazations that know what they're doing when it comes to player development, that went this route, that'd be one thing, but the Angels?

This reeks of either desperation to.make the playoffs and placate Ohtani or just straight incompetence.

Or maybe they trust their own internal scouting more so than people on the internet who have never set foot inside a baseball organization

The Braves are extremely aggressive with player promotions. Probably the second most in baseball behind the Angels. They did this with Neto and he has looked very good

They are aggressive, correct. But even Strider spent most of '21 in the minors(albeit not long in any one spot) before coming up. He didn't go straight to the bigs.

I just don't trust the Angels in their player development.

I think he stays w/the Angels or goes to Seattle.

If they do then Cashman needs to be fired into the sun.

You think a GM with a lot of money to play with needs to be fired into the sun for overpaying for arguably the most dynamic player of all time?
