LSU played a football game with the Pete Maravich Assembly Center across the street from the stadium still being used as a triage center from Katrina. STFU

Yeah...and we in Louisiana did such a spectacular job with Katrina's aftermath....not a really great analogy.

But I'm sure the financial implications were very complex.

All proceeds from game at LSU would have gone to UF…after event staff get paid of course

jeeeeeeez guess they dont make analytical meteorologist like they used too.

There are limits to everything. The technological advancements made during the time of that graphic helped tremendously. You aren't going to see steady advancement on that scale. Better/more efficient super computers will eventually lead to better models and better long range forecasting. Progress on that front moves at a snail's pace.

There are a couple good studies out there that try to answer the question of if we've reached a limit on track forecasting.

Personally, I think it is a moot point and kind of a waste of energy debate. We are most lacking in intensity forecasting, and improvements/advancements there will benefit people a whole lot more than a minuscule improvement in a 5 day cone forecast.

Watching how these folks are still freaking out about a football game 7 years ago makes me wonder if there is a reason Florida is thriving and Louisiana, in the words of many here, is a stinking cesspool.

Would all the additional revenue local business gained be sent to the businesses in Gaines that lost revenue?

From my perspective, y'all would have everything to gain and UF everything to lose, and y'all are pissed because you couldn't take advantage of brother conference school in an emergency.

If the situation is ever reversed, and a hurricane is bearing down on Red Stick or it's proximity, I hope UF would say "do whatever you need to do, we are here for you if you need help", and not try and take advantage of the situation for their own benefit.

The amount of data that needs to be acquired and then processed for a large improvement in that area will require quantum computing. There will be small incremental steps until then, but for now all they can do id refine current methods for small improvements.

Considering where track forecasts were 20 years ago, I think they've done pretty well.

I'm sure it was purely altruistic. Or maybe there was some benefit for both parties.

Yeah. The benefit was that the game got played as planned away from the hurricane

“Would all the additional revenue local business gained be sent to the businesses in Gaines that lost revenue?”

Probably not the best place to have this discussion but the frustration from LSU fans with this is that LSU lost a home game over a 2 year span because Florida failed to be proactive in moving the game. LSU offered to play the game in multiple places and multiple times. With the reschedule and going to Florida away in back to back years LSU local businesses and economy was the one affected with the lost revenue from a lost home game. LSU cancelled a home game against a non-SEC opponent that was never rescheduled due to the scheduling mess.

A rant about a LSU football game influenced by a hurricane in a TigerDroppings forum about hurricanes seems appropriate, if slightly off topic.

This is a great look at the formation of a storm from a radar perspective. And if you look at the image name, Mark has already named it Idalia.

Both 0z HAFS have a cat 4 into the big bend. I lived and worked in the Big Bend for more than 30 years, have a lot of friends there. I was there during Michael, but we missed the worst of it. My heart aches thinking of the possibilities. Another possibility is I'm wiped from the planet. Next run will probably put a Cat 4 into Tampa.

And I have another 24 hours watching this thing putzing around giving the models opportunities to shotgun doomcanes from Apalachicola to Tampa.

I really need to get a weed license, put on some Floyd, Rush or Zeppelin and not GAF.

The higher resolution hurricane models were no bueno overnight.

That’s one category 5 storm, one category 4, one 3, and one higher end 2.

If Florida didn't have beautiful beaches, it would be worse than Louisiana.

I hate the Yucatan storms. They don't give much time to prepare.
