This has ended up to being a really good thread.

So many great episodes and shows mentioned - all coming from a very subjective point of view. I've watched most of the shows mentioned, outside a few, but seeing the same shows mentioned multiple times is a testament to their impact.

I think poster meeple mentioned "33" - that's BSG (2004) - greatness.

I'll refrain from my normal Lost is still an amazing show to this day. That cuts hard for some people.

I know reality tv is seen as "below" scripted, but the best episode of television I've ever watched is probably in Survivor: Heroes vs Villians when Pavarti uses two immunity idols to save Jerri and Sandra.

Just excellent, dramatic television.

Greatest fake out in tv history.

Last Man Standing S7, E8 HR’s Rough n’ Stuff
just for laughs and Jay Leno fans

The Andy Griffith Show S4 E21 The Shoplifters
Don Knotts at his best! Young Clint Howard with a pretty clever cameo.

The Honeymooners S1 E3 The Golfer “hello, ball!”
Gosh, I miss this kind of comedy.

Depends on whether you are building a series or bringing it toward a conclusion.

Best establishing episodes I can remember for a series were the pilot of The Shield and the season 1 premiere (after the miniseries) of the new Battlestar Galactica.

The BSG episode, “33”, was named after the Cylons being able to home in on the fleet and attack them 33 minutes after every jump, to where everyone manning the ships is starting to go loopy from exhaustion.

The Shield? It sets up the precinct, the Strike Team, and what you think the premise of the show will be, then throws some of that right out the window by the end of the first episode.

Best episode which was just a great episode and had little to no impact on the series as a whole? Pine Barrens on The Sopranos.

Take a couple of guys who are marginally competent in their environment, put them where they are completely out of their depth, and hilarity ensues. “He said that guy was an interior decorator and killed 15 Czechoslovakians!”

Dramatic- LOST- Through The Looking Glass

Total and complete mindf---k. A gamechanger.

Comedy- haven't seen it listed, so I'll submit "The Ski Lodge"- Frasier. Perfect comedic situation.
