James Wright a perennial backup WR at LSU made it 5 years in the league mostly with the Bengals, but tore his PCL in his 1st year and never fully recovered.

Story from the Vikings camp when Hunter got to camp was how poor his technique was for a guy coming from the SEC. Brick Haley was a turrible coach.
I think he was a victim of the scheme at the time as well. If I remember correctly, the DEs were regularly tasked with playing contain rather than getting upfield. Even if it was exaggerated around here, 3rd & Chavis was a meme for a reason.

got dang how did he have such a career? good on him!

Throw Chavis in there too. Guy had a freak edge rusher and used him for containment his entire career
And had the best defense in the country. A lot of other coaches with similar talent were letting them pin their ears back against guys like Johnny Manzeil; then they watched them pursue the QB downfield.
Chavis was the only guy stopping every kind of offense he lined up against. Saban, at the same time, was struggling agaist mobile QBs.

I’m not sure what you are going for here. These guys were both very good at LSU.

I remember the 185 lb. Center would head up against him in his 1A district.

Bingo. Johnny Football never beat us. This was the reason. LSU contained him, kept him in the pocket. He couldn’t get out of it. That’s one of the reasons he didn’t make it in the NFL. In the NFL, you have to be able to throw from the pocket.

Was not drafted out of LSU. Played a number of years in the NFL.
As for Blue Gay, I still see him every now and then. A number of years back, he save a man’s life in a house fire.

Talking about 2 guy who were better in the pros then they were at LSU. Both undrafted guys played nearly a decade in the league.

I generally hate these statements.
He was basically a practice squad member when he first entered the league and id expect after 13 years in the nfl youd be better than after 3 years in college.
Plus lsu was loaded on D when he was here. He won a national title with LSU and even led the sec in fumble recoveries that year.

Russell Shepherd too. Went undrafted, then made +10M over 7 seasons
now he owns a waste management business in LA and is a big NIL contributor to LSU

I don’t think you have a good grasp on this topic, but it probably isn’t worded the best. I think what the OP means is those that had underwhelming careers at LSU relative to expectation, and ones you wouldn’t expect to stick in the NFL at all, but end up having long careers.
Al Woods was a 5 star out of High School and he never got close to those expectations. His 13 year NFL career is impressive.

In 2011 yes, otherwise:

Yea man Chavis was definitely a better DC than Saban guess you should’ve told Saban that when he was either hanging 50 on Chavis or marching it down the field like shite through a goose when Chavis trotted out his awful prevent defense.
Most overrated DC in the history of SEC football. I did a very deep statistical analysis on him when he left for A&M and the numbers don’t lie, he was never that good. His yards per play allowed were very bad and despite him pretending that Miles terrible ball-control offense hurt him, he greatly benefited from the low defensive snap counts. Anyone who actually watched his defenses outside of 2011 knows that they were overrated and didn’t match their overall inflated rankings

Crazy when you think all the hate Payton/Saints get for not drafting LSU guys. They actually draft Woods and lose him trying to sneak him on the PS
