It was pretty amazing last year when Johnson pulled in the two biggest fish from the transfer portal, Skenes and White. The pressure was all on Johnson, as most college baseball experts thought LSU had a championship roster.

For those who watch college baseball, LSU became one of the most much watch college baseball teams ever. You had Skenes with his world class fastball. Tommy Tank with his gold chains and his wide stance looked straight out of a video game. Dylan Crews was like an all American kid who could have starred in The Natural. There might not have been a more recognizable player in all college baseball than Tre Morgan with his bozo bleach blond hair erupting from under his cap.

Which all adds up to not much if you cant deliver. And they delivered. Skenes came from Air Force and White from North Carolina because they wanted a big stage, they wanted to go to Omaha and win. They teamed with Crews, Morgan and a lot more to become a formidable roster that could win in a lot of ways.

You don’t think kids like Holman saw that? The atmosphere at Alex Box is uncommon in college baseball. Skenes couldnt talk about it enough. People who watch college baseball watched. LSU fans did their part making Omaha a home field. And they bought over 18000 Jell-O shots. Sportscenter kept a running tally of the shot race, giving LSU baseball even more publicity money can hardly buy. Indeed the biggest odds on favorite at Omaha had to be LSU fans in a drinking contest. LOL.

It’s no accident LSU is reloading with top transfers. Who wouldnt want the Skenes/White experience? Having Crews win the golden spike and having Skenes and Crews go 1 and 2 in the draft sure did not hurt. Expectations will be high for next year. The boost this year gave to LSU baseball recruiting will go on for a very long time. Nobody in the last 25 years has any more skins on the wall than LSU.

To quote Chief Brody: "We're gonna need a bigger b--- stadium!"

Or Field of Dreams: "If you build it, they will come.."

I'll settle for 17500 chairbacks, more suites, a bern, outfield deck/sun area a la Zephyr Field, longer overhang, new bullpen. Might take a couple of years though...

Oh, and a new 7-NC sign. :)
And a better SRO system....shady line :)

I enjoy the fact we won the Natty just like everyone else. But the '23 team faced a pretty easy schedule all things considered. They won when it counted, and that matters, but it's not like Burrow & Company chewing through one of the toughest schedules in NCAA history and STILL stomping mudholes everywhere.

What things? Like we faced and beat 5 of the top 10 teams in the final rankings?

Like we had a .761 winning percentage?

Like we only lost 2 series in conference play?

Like we played through the toughest bracket in the CWS and had to beat the best teams by playing 8 games in 10 days or something like that?

This may not have been the hardest schedule faced, but it was by no means easy.

Was it the 'WBB' that tipped it off?
