Need to repaint outdoor kitchen ceiling, currently white, tons of bugs, dirt dobbers, and constantly power washed, any truth to blue ceiling repelling bugs?

mine is a month old and so far so good.
dirt daubers on the white trim, but not blue ceiling
Blue ceiling looks better anyway

Mine is pretty good. I still get the occasional spider chilling in the corner between wall and ceiling

Fact. Three years in still looks good.

They claim it started because the colorant used to get that blue color in paint originally was toxic/repelling to insects. I do like the look and many swear it works.

Sherwin Williams Haint Blue will keep the spirits out too.

FACT - I'm about 5 years in. I have the occasional color blind dirt dauber - but most stay away.

we have blue ceilings, my vote is fiction.

Well, looks like I'll try blue, can't be worse than white,, I'll be able to give my opinion in a few years

I've been in my house since 92 and when I moved in both the porch ceilings and exposed overhangs were painted white with lots of yellow jacket nests active.
When I prepped and painted the house I went with light blue for all overhead wood-----porch ceilings and overhang and have not had an issue with bees, wasps, etc. building nests.
I will get the occasional dirt dauber nest, but they get knocked down easily when pressure washing the house.
HUGE difference is my experience.

Spiders don’t seem to care but definitely helps with wasp and dirt dobbers imo. It’s not fool proof. Lady bugs don’t care either which is what bugs me. Still have to pressure wash but maybe not as frequent.

I replaced my siding a year ago, and I had the ceiling of the patio done in a light blue. The prior color was white. Of course when it was white we were pressure washing every 6 months. With the light blue color there isn't a spot on it yet. Fingers crossed!

We’ve had it a couple of years. SW Haint Blue.
Not one wasp nest. In the longer “boat port” section which is still white it’s constant wasp and dirt dauber nests.

Haint blue was a colour painted on doors and ceilings. The ghosts would confuse the colour believing that the ceiling was a part of the sky or the door a part of the water. The ghosts would think that the house is somehow protected with something sublime and powerful. This would confuse the ghosts unable to decipher how to enter the home. It was used as a protection colour from ghosts and spirits.
The blue came from the cultivation of indigo dye. It also kept bugs out because of the lye added into the paint that acted as a wood varnish and bug repellent. The lye paint mixture was particularly effective against wasps, spiders and infestations from building their nests or webs between the wood. Furthermore, if the bugs associated the colour with the sky, they would not make nests in the ceiling.

Fact.
Six years in and nothing touches it.
The dirt daubers and shite go straight to the white.

I have the blue under my carport right next to my off white soffit. 5 years in and one has bugs and mud daubers and one doesn’t

I thought it was primarily to keep the voodoo spirits away.
