This. My Mom had a church bell.
1 ring - Time to come home
2 rings - where are you
3 rings - Go see your Dad
grew up down the street from the Bradshaws, Ms. Novis had a big old bell in the back yard, she'd ring it once and it was like a movie where people are immediately transported in the middle of what ever they were doing at that second, those baws would bolt, you did not want for her to have to ring that bell twice, her and Mr. Bill ran a pretty taught ship back in those days

Playing baseball in the Summer and spending time at the beach.
Family gatherings at the river where we could water ski and ride on the Hobie Kat.

Pulled my toddler out of the pool and put him in a fresh dry oversized t shirt. He lit up.
I remembered that simple summertime feeling.

we were doing that one day and there was this kid in the neighborhood that we called Opera Freddie there with us, we dialed his house and gave the phone to him (after his mother had answered,) and he said something like "I want to feel your titties," "Freddie!! is that you Freddie??" "uh, no ma'am" "Freddie you come home right now, you're in big trouble"

random pick up football, baseball, basketball games at any house where kids were playing.
Playing with and repairing my model 25 Daisy BB gun. I’m often search eBay for an old model 25 in decent shape.
Building a bike from throwaway parts found by the street. We had 2 small towns worth of streets to get lucky.
Riding bikes around with friends.
Fishing during the summer. Walk a half mile to the Mississippi river to fish and walk into the swamp a mile in the opposite direction.
Little League baseball was always a blast.

quote:We lived next to NLU, we would call the dorms where different camps would stay. Cheerleading, dance line, or flag line...whatever. Our dream was one would answer and tell us to come over. Amazingly enough it happened. We walked three miles to get there, and two of the hottest flag line members in history were waiting.
Making crank calls - my kids will never know the joy.
We smiled, giggled, blushed and walked back home. Real ladies men.

I also worked the concession stands when I wasn't playing. I practically lived there.

Riding bikes through neighborhoods and woods with no cell phones or plan or communication with anyone. Hard to imagine that kind of freedom now.

once a 13 yr old friend of mine suggested swimming to pennsylvania from Edgewater Park NJ. a mile at least.
we had mile swim badges from 12 yrs old.
a bit more than halfway a ship came into view.
we were liable to be run down or sucked into the prop. we kicked! high gear to a bouy marking the penn side end of channel. clabered up and hung on the bouy as the iron ore went up river.
my parents never knew.

Taking girl friend to drive-in movies and making out.
Taking girl friend and parking on Lakeshore Drive near the Mardi Gras fountain and making out. She loved to be fingered.

Hooking my dads fishing boat up to my four wheeler after school in spring and fall and going 2 miles down the road to a lake and bass fishing till dinner. I kept our freezer full of fish
Also duck hunting every weekend in winter with my friends. Adult responsibilities have really cut into the time I have for such things these days

How much I enjoyed being outside. My 2 year-old has brought it out of me again, getting down in the grass and playing with his dinosaur toys.
I was obsessed with action figures as a kid and constantly played in the dirt, grass, puddles, trees with them. I think my son is going to have my imagination as a kid. Damn, to be that carefree again...
