Central America is a subregion of the Americas. Its boundaries are defined as bordering Mexico to the north, Colombia to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Central America usually consists of seven countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.

You are welcome for the education. I can’t believe I am having to point this out.

North America = US + Canada

Central America = Bottom of the US to top of Panama Canal

South America = Anything south of the Panama Canal

Mexico is part of North America, but Mexicans refer to the US as Norteamerica.

To be fair, what other term would they use?

In Latin America the term “America” means the entire continent, from Argentina and Chile up to Canada. They actually consider it all to be one continent.

They wouldn’t use the term United states either because Mexico is “the United States of Mexico”

Well technically it is one giant continent. Some people only refer to it as america, not north and south.

"Have to" is bit strong. I think I would have gone about my life just as easily had I not been educated by your unnecessary thread.
