If he's staying in those hotels, he's got a decent amount of money----or at least someone has since they are two of the nicer hotels in N.O. and I'm sure the room rates are nowhere near in line with a Motel 6.

Just making a point. We are getting one side of the story here. Dude is staying in a nice hotel. Maybe he is running from his mom. It happens.

If the guy was self sufficient then it would be a bit much but OP and family have every right to be concerned and to be taking the current steps.

I 100% understand your point and thought it as well when I first saw this thread. And he's only been gone since Friday.
The phone thing is the one thing that gives me pause and is a cause for concern.
If he hadn't done that and simply wasn't answering, I would have a different perspective

Almost no information was known by OP when he started this thread. His family is concerned.
Nothing negatively has been done to the brother and the mom is on the way to go see him.
I would say all the info presented so far, including a mug shot in the OP, leads the family to rightfully be concerned.

The best you're going to get is confirmation he's alive. If there is no crime and he appears to be in good health, they aren't going to give you anything, and they probably shouldn't.
At a certain point it has to come down to the family making the move to go try to check on him and see what kind of shape he's in. Trying to get hotels and police to bend the rules on privacy matters isn't the way, nor should it be. His brother is an adult. He makes his own decisions whether others agree with them or not.
If a location he is staying has been narrowed down and he's confirmed to be there and alive, it then becomes a family issue.

The cell phone in the hands of someone else who says she bought it from someone who was not the brother is a red flag by itself, coupled with his history, all of which would cause me grave concerns about his well being. He doesn't sound like some normal adult who wanted a getaway. He has to know this would cause his mother great worry.

The intercontinental is a major hub area for foot traffic. It’s not just a ho hum holiday inn. There’s a bunch of shite going on around there. Definitely a weird hotel to pick for a bender

This. If it was a simple weekend away why wouldn't he talk to the mother and say "Hey I'm going out of town for the weekend. Will be back by certain date. etc..."
As others said he's going for broke. Hopefully someone gets to him before he hits the bottom

He also has a daughter who is visiting with her mother out of state. I don't know what procedures they follow for communicating when one parent has the daughter. The daughter could be trying to call him as well and I would imagine if she gets a strange woman who tells that story, the girl will be alarmed. That's another red flag.
