One of my best and closest friends of lost his job 3 months ago, he just started a new job last month and has now been diagnosed with ALS (2-4 Yr). It is quite a struggle for the family now.

His son is going into high school and has some real golf talent. The problem is he has grown about 6 inches and his current set doesn't fit him.

I let him use my clubs to go play a round with his future high school golf teammates and he shot his lowest round ever (72) and then a 75 in the wind. He just pounded my Cobra AeroJet driver.

After talking to him and my friend, I gave him my clubs, because the young man needs a little joy right now as can be imagined and I just love the kid, so smart and respectful.

I said before on here that My wife and I were not able to have kids, so we live a little vicariously though our friends kids and our nieces.

So now I am starting from scratch except for my putter, TSR 7 wood and St. Jude bag. Really thinking about the Srixon X5 irons or getting another set of the Gen 6 PXG's.

I've started with new Cleveland Zipcore Wedges. Not sure where I am going from here, but I plan on hitting some more demo's and keeping a open mind.

Your'e a good dude man. Given how much you like to tinker around with different clubs, this will probably be a fun project for you. Will be interesting to see what the full setup looks like.

I have the zipcore wedges and love them.

56 with mid bounce and 60 with low bounce.

Also, you did a good deed

Sounds like a great good, good job
I love my Cleveland wedges. I got rid of my Zx5s for some Titleist T-300 because they were a better fit my trash swing. But I did love the Srixons.

Man that’s tough, but a solid move by you.

Interested to see what you end up with also. I’ve got Zipcore wedges too. Like them a lot.

I’ve been updating my bag under much less interesting circumstances. My shite was 10-15 years old, I’ve started playing a lot more, and I had cash to burn, so I’ve just been late nighting on eBay.

Callaway Epic driver
Titleist TSi2 3 wood
Srixon ZX hybrids
Cleveland wedges
Odyssey putter

My last piece will be here Tuesday, JPX 923 Hot Metals.

I’m leaving Thursday for a golf weekend and scheduled a lesson around lunch before I leave. I know the instructor is going to be like who the frick is this idiot. Some of y’all probably thinking the same

I want to get him a bunch of golf balls for the summer.

Has anyone had experience with lostgolfballs.com ?

I know the pricing is ok, but is the quality decent ?

I bought a 96 count bucket of the highest grade Titleist Tour Soft a couple months back. They were about 1.05/ball with the additional 15% promo code they’ve always got running.

I didn’t count, but I’d say at least 85 of them looked like they made it through 2 holes maybe. Looked brand new off the shelf or would have nothing more than a company logo or sharpie mark. Then the rest had a little discoloration or very minor scuffs.

Awesome act of kindness Bopper.

I had gotten some Pro V1’s from lostgolfballs a while back. Bought the mint condition ones, all were in excellent condition.

Bopper you’ve been a legit club whore, I think it’s time to open the checkbook and really get a fine lady of the night.

Her name is Miura, if she’s too pricy her half sister is Mizuno, and if she’s still too pricy her step sister is Srixon.

advising you about clubs is like?

It’s like me advising Warren Buffet on investing.

You are the club whisperer.

Just for fun hit some of the cheaper options like Tour Edge and Cleveland. Sub 70 and Wilson.

You really like that Cobra Aerojet. Probably should stick with it.

Would you try a LAB putter?

That's a real solid thing you did there. The Golf Gods will surely pay you back.

Another RTX Zipcore wedge owner here, 54 Mid and 58 Full. Love them.

I will always recommend Mizuno irons because I'm in the cult. If you are looking at ZX5s maybe try the JPX Forged or Hot Metal Pro from Mizuno. Srixon has been putting out some great irons though so the ZX5s are a great option.

If the Cobra Aerojet worked for you get another one with the same specs.

Now just need a fairway wood to go with that 7w.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

It was all that I thought that I could do for my friend at the moment.

His diagnosis is just heartbreaking for my wife and I since we have been friends for over 25 years.

I will keep Mizuno in mind when I start the process.

Pretty much set on another AeroJet driver and a TSR 4 wood.

Cobra tour, ping I230, or maybe pxg irons. I don’t think zx5’s feel good. zx7’s are pure though

Much respect to you!

Also ... ALS sucks balls. I have/had two friends diagnosed with ALS. One passed away last year. The other was just diagnosed. Interestingly they are both physicians. Weird.

Again ... Awesome act of kindness.

Man that is just an awesome thing you did for that kid and something I bet a lot of us would have done in the same situation. Good for you man, that kid and his family will never forget that. And when he turns pro one day you can always say I gave that dude his first set of clubs! Lol

What was his reaction when you gave him the news??
