It was the best in the country.

I liken Frank Wickes and then Linda Moorhouse to Skip Bertman who created an amazing machine.

The Roy hire was like hiring Smoke. A guy who knew the system and traditions but wasn’t fit to be the lead man. Just like LSU baseball, Tiger Band was able to hang on for 2 or 3 years with the Linda talent but once Roy got his recruits in there who weren’t used to the old system the band fell apart quick. But instead a hiring a Mainieri to bring things back the school of music took over and hired a bunch of nobodies who were in way over their head. Now you have a shell of once was.

You posted ten year old high school band links. He may end up sucking but that was hardly proof. Have you ever seen ANY HS band?

The point is this is the third hire in the last five or six years where LSU just promoted the assistant instead of going out and finding the best person they can for the job

Pretty disgraceful for a band that was as prestigious as Tiger Band once was. It basically just shows nothing will change and the school of music is content with keeping Tiger Band as their cash cow without actually trying to make them the best they can be

Those links are not "proof" of anything. They are an example of his work as a DIRECTOR. And, based on the high school bands I've seen, his band would certainly rank in the bottom half. Those are examples of what he has accomplished as a DIRECTOR. My opinion, he should "prove" his worth as a director somewhere else and not use the LSU Tiger Band as his experimental proving ground. Those students deserve better.

Yep. They even pay the salaries for the directors. It's a sweet deal for the School of Music.

WOW, I had always heard that and didn't know,, but that sucks when combined with the obvious decline the last few years! Talley and his School of Music cronies need to loose control!
Come on Scott and President Tate bring back the quality whatever it takes!

Kelvin Jones was supposed to be interim director until LSU could conduct a nationwide search for a qualified replacement. That search never happened. It won’t happen this time either. In the meantime, the guy in charge of Tiger Band will be even less qualified than Kelvin Jones was. What a joke!

I suspect this all came down quickly and the promotion from within is because rehearsals have basically already begun. I'm sure a national search will take place and this is probably a temporary appointment.

They didn’t do a search when Roy King was fired and they won’t do one this time either.

You are definitely naive if you believe this.

Bring in a director who will go after the best music students in our state. Shouldn’t be that hard to do as each area has honor bands and are recognized. Increase the numbers in Tiger band to the point that you can once again hear them. (Emphasis on brass, please) LSU alumni that have succeeded in music should be brought in to set criteria important to further the education of music students.

Raising their own funds instead of relying on state money? They didn’t get the memo from TD that they are supposed to act like a bunch of “Marxist” pieces of poop in order to substantiate the “woke” narrative?

That's the LSU School of Music Modus Operandi.

DOB Damon Talley has no prior experience in either Marching Band or Drum Corps at any level, thereby having "No Utter Clue" on how to hire a Marching Band Director.

This is freaking Louisiana State University of the Southeastern Conference, not the New England Conservatory of Music.

Somebody (Multiple Somebody's) need to get in Talley's face like right now before he totally fricks this up again.

CONTACT TATE AND WOODWARD AND TELL THEM THAT PROMOTING ANOTHER ASSISTANT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

All Damon Talley wants is to be up on the ladder to direct the National Anthem in Tiger Stadium as he thinks that makes it look like he supports the band.

All it does is delay because Dr. Jones has to climb down so Talley can climb... all for show.

Probably will not matter....Talley will hire another lame yes man and continue to steal funds provided by athletics that are meant for the Tiger Band.
