Gleen Davis West Point'47. Heisman Trophy winner '46. 2d Place Heisman twice '45 and '44. I '45, his backfield mate, Doc Blanchard '47 won. Their senior year the backfield had two Hesiman Tropht winners and the Sullivan award winner- QB Arnold Tucker.
Davis played in the NFL, but busted a knee filming "The Spirit of West Point"
Dated Liz Taylor, took here to the Oscars in 1949, was sent to Korea and lost her.
Davis still holds a couple NCAA rushing records.

Cornelius Bennett. From Wikipedia:
Bennett played for the University of Alabama from 1983 to 1986. Bennett was a first selection on the College Football All-America Team three times (1984–1986). He is one of only two Alabama players to be named to three All-America teams, the other being fellow linebacker Woodrow Lowe. As a senior, he won the Lombardi Award, SEC Player of the Year honors, and finished 7th in the balloting for the Heisman Trophy. In his four seasons at the University of Alabama, Bennett recorded 287 tackles, 21+1/2 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries. His most famous play was in 1986 when he leveled Notre Dame quarterback Steve Beuerlein, immortalized in a painting by artist Daniel Moore titled simply, ‘The Sack.’[2] In 2005, Bennett was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame

Funny you should mention him. That was also my father's name, and even though my dad was about 7-8 years older he always got asked if he was the one that played fullback for State. I remember that happening numerous times when I was a kid in the late 70's/early 80's. My dad was a stocky, muscular guy in his own right. A middle linebacker by trade so he looked the part.
