He's due. Wasn't it him who had a clutch late inning hit in the super?

You have people who post about the team all year wanting to have skenes ride the pine at the beginning of an elimination game in which as far as we know, he's available

Some people think it’s an option to start a guy like Hurd, who has been really good for a month now and bring Skenes in at the back end rather than the front. And maybe, if our offense explodes, you don’t need Skenes. I don’t know anyone who is saying don’t pitch Skenes at all if he is needed.

And if Hurd struggles you potentially get into a hole and burn Skenes in a loss or at best burn him for the championship series anyway. Why not start with your best foot forward?

You have to realize if you have very limited range you’re not getting to as many balls and therefore have less chance to make errors. Plus, the throw from second base to first is exponentially easier than the throw from short. It’s obvious they are trying to hide Gavin as much as they can when they switch he and JT. You also don’t replace Gavin late if he wasn’t suspect defensively. That clearly shows you who they consider the liability. That’s not a shot at Gavin, who has to be in the lineup, just the obvious reality.

Thompson has been all around terrible in the CWS. Outside of one (RBI) hit, he has given you literally nothing at the plate. In the field he has made a couple of nice plays. But he also had two late errors, on what should have been third outs, that could have been devastating if his teammates didn't come through. He also has mitigated the possibility of turning at least two potential double-plays because of unnecessary and lazy underhand tosses to 2nd. But....

DESPITE ALL OF THAT

LSU really doesn't have a better option right now. This isn't Nintendo where another fictitious great player is waiting on the bench. So you just have to live with the bad and hope like hell the good (which he is capable of) comes through in a big moment.

How exactly would you start him and not burn him for the championship series?? The only chance you have of him being available in the championship series is if you don’t start him; and hopefully he either throws limited pitches or you don’t need him at all. Wake is going to be patient and work pitch counts on Skenes so there is almost no chance he can throw a CG being on short rest (for him). So you’re almost surely going to need Hurd for a few innings. Why not early ones rather than the late ones? I think Jay will start Skenes and I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with that, but starting Hurd would not be a crazy idea.

Bingo.

Didn't we have some folks who wanted to jerk Beloso out of the lineup just last week? Ditto, Jobert?

I'm waiting for folks to start whining about how we should bench Tommy Tanks.

I never said you could. I'm saying instead of going with your strongest hand out of the gate, you may have to burn him anyway if Hurd struggles and he still can't pitch this weekend or Monday. Or you burn him in a loss and look like a fricking moron for not starting him.

So you're saying Thompson will be drafted in the first three rounds?

Are you sure about that?

He’s been pretty solid all year.Defense has improved immensely. He’s struggled at the plate in the CWS, but not to the point of pulling him. .257 with 11 hrs this year for a solid SS is not someone to bench in the most important game of the year. Beloso was 2 for his last 15 going into TN game on Tuesday. Glad they did not consider him an “experiment” and pull him.

He was 8 for 18 in the supers/regionals, was red hot then. People have short term memories.
