I'd argue for the several days it took to be sure the implosion was one that happened under the so called research vessel and not one making a drug delivery.

A submarine drug delivery in the middle of the North Atlantic?

Uh, okay.

It's probably more likely that they had a very good idea it imploded but wanted to make absolutely sure just in case they were wrong.

I'm not sure why so many people are having a hard time with them holding out hope even though they knew the odds sub imploded were extremely high.

That was always the most likely scenario.

It’s A controller.

That has been photoshopped onto a photoshopped ocean picture with the outline of the vessel edited in it. Jesus Christ people

The $15 controller can handle 5500 pounds of pressure?! Lmao

Should’ve made the entire sub out of the controller….

Too many posts to catch up, but just watched a dallymd youtube video about his trip on this sub.

Luckily his trip was canceled, can you imagine? That piece of shite boat was constantly plagued with problems. If I had paid to go and it kept having problems AND I saw what it was, how they launched, etc… I would have asked for a refund.

I think we should go easy on these people.

They’re under a lot of pressure

I’m in midstream; pipelines. And we do pressure cycle analysis on carbon steel pipelines. After so many pressure cycles they must be replaced. If we are doing that math on pipelines, surely it should have been being performed on materials of vessel facing 300 atms of pressure.

42” diameter .412 thick pipe makes a smoker like you wouldn’t believe

Doesn’t really work the same way. We’re talking about mini-subs for public use. This is like your ROV company deciding to add people into that journey.

Company is fricked. They’re about to find out the long-dick of being within spec, though.

Yeah good point. so I would think the safety factor should be exponentially more than what we use

Too many corners cut. There’s more energy put into subsea equipment working at certain depths than this.

I guess I missed that Hamish Harding descended to Challenger Deep in 2021 on the Limiting Factor which is the only craft to make repeated dives there.

He had to have seen a difference in operations, but maybe after going 10,900 meters below sea level he lowered expectations too much for a craft going down to almost 3,800 meters to see the Titanic.

Limiting Factor

Dude I just watched this, it gives a very good look at the company and procedures in place. I recommend everyone take a look at it.

Video on Twitter of one of their missions where they discovered a thruster had been installed backwards. Doesn’t present a pretty picture of this operation being thorough in safety protocols.

Edit - insane reality leaks video. Didn’t see it posted here yet apologies if so.

That thing cost $37 million and dove The Mariana Trench like 19 times. That's pretty impressive.

Cameron said he went 3 times deeper than the Titanic in a sub he made himself. He said the material the Titan was made of has no business in deep sea excursions.

Cameron seems to be more vocal about this than he is about his movies. I read the below just now.
quote:

“This OceanGate sub had sensors on the inside of a hull to give them a warning when it was starting to crack,” he told ABC News. “And I think if that's your idea of safety, then you're doing it wrong. They probably had warning that their hull was starting to delaminate, starting to crack. ... [W]e understand from inside the community that they had dropped their ascent weights and they were coming up, trying to manage an emergency.”

Don't know if everyone has seen this, I know Cameron's got some weird views but this is entertaining from start to finish.
