I believe it’s typically a 5 day trip so they can launch at least one and perhaps multiple times to accommodate for conditions and multiple paying customers.

Imagine being on the mother ship right now knowing your trip down was up next. Refund, please and now.

This may seem dumb but if they know the last known location can’t they get that guy that fishes with magnets to toss one down there with a long rope? At least he’d have a decent chance of hooking them.

I feel like I’m watching Baby Jessica down in the well all over again but with way less hope.

Damn that goes back a day or two.

Would you say the chances are high we never find out what happened?

I guess the good news is now we know carbon fiber hulls don’t work in extreme deep sea conditions and that they deteriorate to unsafe conditions within a year or two of repeated abuse at extreme pressure levels. Imagine paying 250k to be a live beta test inside this experimental deep sea submersible

What is the deal with the noise they are hearing?

Or had been on the successful trip the day before this happened...

They found the source of the sound by turning off all light inside the sub and shining flashlights out of the window. They would both agree that the noticeable crack on the window was nothing to worry about and decide to continue their mission.

Ah hell naw. This white boy would be heading back up post haste.

It could be anything. If it’s the submersible crew, then we went from speculating about them having a quick and painless death to a certain slow and terrifying one. I hope that not the case

There has been so little manned deep sea exploration that we are still at the point in time where every single trip down is a beta test.

Im trying to wrap my mind around the sub "imploding" and the sheer physics and violence but its difficult.

Water pressure at that level is 380x greater than on land. Equivalent of being stuck under a 100 story tower made of lead. Just imagine.

Think this but a whole lot worse.

A 12500' rope? Additionally that area is the intersection of two huge currents so there's no telling where this thing is.

their brains might register the initial sound but that would be fleeting as they were crushed to a pulp in an instant

Speed of sound is 761 MPH in general but varies with atmospheric conditions.

So would the collapse of the skin actually be faster than 761 MPH. Don't know...considering the immense pressure, maybe. If it collapses faster, they would be gone before they even heard the sound.

Give a redneck a roll of duct tape and 30 minutes, it'll be as good as new.

The Skandi Vinland is outfitted for inspection, maintenance, and repair work and light well intervention. They have a survey suite on board but they are performing work on subsea assets that they already know the location of. Their only ability to find the sub is gonna be with the cameras on the ROVs and a ton of luck

Close, but not quite. They have MBES and FLS as well.

They do, but I doubt they have a Kongsberg EM124 on board, so probably not hitting those depths. Could be wrong.

The resolution of the 124 certainly isn’t picking the wreckage up though. Need a deep tow SSS or SAS down there at depth.
