This is the one with the CEO that said they don’t hire 50 year old white guys because that’s uninspiring?

The Skandi Vinland is outfitted for inspection, maintenance, and repair work and light well intervention. They have a survey suite on board but they are performing work on subsea assets that they already know the location of. Their only ability to find the sub is gonna be with the cameras on the ROVs and a ton of luck

The Juan C would have found and rescued them in about 3.50 hours

Well airplanes aren’t subjected to repeated EXTREME pressure dynamics.

I’m no materials scientist but I suspect that repeatedly subjecting the carbon fiber material to 5,000+ psi over years weakens the fiber a lot.

That’s my working theory on this disaster. That shell finally cracked and about one instant later - mush.

That’s the best case scenario for these people anyway. Sitting on the bottom of that ocean for four days in the cold pitch dark knowing you’re dead - no bueno.

idk this might be kinda wrong for me to ask.

that said, if ambulance costs me $400 and there is fire department right down the street what does it cost to have an entire fleet of boats looking for these people? who is picking up that tab?

The CEO and one of the subs is down there. The company still exists.

They have probably already filed for bankruptcy though.

I'm so glad we have all these experts in the thread. What luck that so many frequent TD.

What if it was The Meg? That would be so cool.

If I were in charge of this thing, I would search the surface only because the submersible bobbing around like a cork on the surface is the only scenario where these people live

On this note, Idk much about carbon fiber, but I’m guessing an EPIRB or personal locator beacon wouldn’t be able to transmit thru the hull even if the sub had surfaced. But I wonder why this thing doesn’t have radar reflectors or prisms mounted on the exterior to at least make it easier to locate on the surface.

Because they made this bitch as cheap as humanly possible.

If they made it to surface and texts can get thru hull to get navigation instructions, why wouldn’t their cell phones work? Could use “find my phone” in a manner of speaking. Of course no cell service out their most likely unless starlink works on their phones.

If on bottom or imploded then all bets are off

My understanding is that those texts were transmitted with acoustics.

This kind of statement has to be taken with a grain of salt in that everyone shown in any article as being associated with that company, including the CEO, looks to be a 50s year old white guy.

So would the collapse of the skin actually be faster than 761 MPH. Don't know...considering the immense pressure, maybe. If it collapses faster, they would be gone before they even heard the sound.

Been reading everything I can find about this sub, which makes me a bona-fide interwebs expert.

My best guess is the sub is either A- Tangled in cable, rope or fishing net and unable to free itself or B- They attempted to enter an open section of the Titanic's hull and there was a collapse, trapping the sub.

I figure if there was a catastrophic hull breech and the sub imploded, there would be substantial debris floating on the surface. There must be many buoyant objects/parts which would have surfaced by now.
